Job Title: Floater Operator
Job Description
The Floater Operator serves as a versatile manufacturing team member who supports multiple production areas, including hand winding, coiling operations, oven tending, packaging, quality inspection, and material handling. This role ensures that products meet established quality standards while maintaining production efficiency and a safe working environment.
Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of production machinery, including coil winding and related equipment, to support multiple manufacturing departments as needed.
• Set up machines according to production specifications, including changeovers, adjustments, and basic configuration for different products.
• Monitor machine performance during operation and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
• Perform hand winding and coiling operations with precision to meet quality and dimensional requirements.
• Tend ovens and related equipment, ensuring proper handling of materials and adherence to process parameters.
• Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify product quality.
• Follow blueprints, work instructions, and production documentation to ensure accurate and consistent output.
• Handle packaging tasks, including preparing, labeling, and securing finished products for shipment or storage.
• Use hand and power tools safely for adjustments, minor repairs, and general production tasks.
• Support material handling activities by moving materials and components between workstations and departments as needed.
• Maintain accurate production and quality records using computer systems and basic computer skills.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area to support a safe and efficient manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work, resolve issues, and meet production schedules.
• Adapt to different departments and tasks, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to learn new processes and equipment.

Essential Skills

• Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience as a machine operator, including set up, operation, and basic troubleshooting of production equipment.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with mechanically inclined tasks and machinery.
• Proficiency in machine operating for general production, including changeovers and adjustments.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow detailed work instructions.
• Experience using measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers for inspections.
• Hands-on experience with hand and power tools in a production setting.
• Basic computer skills to enter data, follow electronic work instructions, and complete production documentation.
• Ability to perform inspections and quality checks to ensure products meet specifications.
• Capability to work in a louder manufacturing environment and adapt to temperature changes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a coil winder or working with coiling operations.
• Experience in general production work across multiple departments.
• Comfort with performing machine changeovers for different product runs.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards.
• Willingness to cross-train in various departments and learn new processes.
• Ability to work overtime, including pre-shift overtime starting at 5:00 a.m., when needed.

Work Environment
This role operates in a louder manufacturing environment where temperatures can be hotter in the summer and cooler in the winter. The setting emphasizes a family atmosphere, with many long-tenured employees and a strong sense of teamwork and mutual support. You work on a first-shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the potential for pre-shift overtime starting at 5:00 a.m. The environment includes regular use of production machinery, measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers, hand and power tools, and computer systems to support manufacturing operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tinley Park, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
