Learn more about our philosophy: Dr. Kazuo Inamori’s writings and our motto, “Do the right thing as a human being.” General Description Of Position The Machinist sets up and operates a variety of industrial machines which may include CNC Mills, CNC Lathes, Vertical Machining Centers, and surface grinders to machine ceramic parts. Machinists are expected to run 1-3 machines simultaneously and understand all aspects of setup and precision measuring. Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Machine Technology certificate preferred. 1+ years advanced CNC 3-axis machining experience including on-the-job training. Ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions in English. Ability to perform unit conversions (including fractions). Read mechanical drawings/blueprints including GD&T. Vision and depth perception suitable for inspection microscopes. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods. Ability to mentor, train, or lead other Operators. Pass criminal background check and drug screen. Eligible to work in an ITAR environment. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Set up and observe CNC machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjust machine controls or indicators as required, including tool offset adjustments using controllers (Haas, Fanuc, Okuma, etc.). Measure, mark, and/or scribe dimensions and reference points on parts; review technique cards and customer work orders for changes. Select, align, and secure holding fixtures and materials on machines to maintain .0005 tolerances. Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors; edit machine codes or applications as needed. Document scrapped parts or machine issues and communicate with peers to ensure continuous machine utilization. Verify conformance of finished parts and prepare First Article Inspection reports; read prints and inspect parts per ISO 9001. May be trained on CMM or optical comparator; use precision measuring tools to ensure quality checks. Report machine failures, non-conformance, spills, accidents, EHS concerns, and maintenance requests promptly. Participate in P5S and keep machinery clean; address spills and sensors as needed. Perform basic preventative maintenance on machines daily and document results. Adhere to safety programs, PPE, and safe operating practices.
