Histology Technician

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Performs routine and special procedures on patients\' tissue specimens in preparation for pathological examination. *****

OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

1. Associate degree in Histotechnology, or 2. High School Diploma with HT or HTL American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or eligibility for certification (see below). ASCP Eligibility requirements: a. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years prior to the date of application for examination; OR b. At least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), OR c. An associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both). *If eligible for certification under b or c above, one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., or Canada within the last five years is also required. Such experience must include: Tissue Fixation Embedding/Microtomy Tissue Processing Staining Laboratory Operations 3. If not certified at the time of hire, successful ASCP Certification within one year of hire into Histology Technician position required.
