Physician Assistant - Sports Medicine

Care for patients across the system, including inpatient rounding, operating-room first assisting, and outpatient office visits Perform complete histories and problem-focused examinations and establish working diagnoses for orthopedic conditions Interpret x-rays and other diagnostic studies and order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures Develop treatment plans, order consultations, and coordinate with specialty medical teams First assist orthopedic surgical cases in the operating room Provide perioperative care for orthopedic surgery patients with the multidisciplinary team Provide bedside treatments such as joint injections Respond to and manage acute care needs of hospitalized orthopedic patients Coordinate and communicate patient care with patients, families, and healthcare teams Educate and encourage patients to participate in their healthcare and provide patient education materials Prescribe medication, write orders, perform procedures, and respond to emergency or acute condition changes Document patient encounters, notes, orders, prescriptions, test results, and instructions in medical records Contribute to quality reporting metrics and participate in Grand Rounds, APP Council Meetings, unit meetings, and M&M presentations Precept, mentor, educate, and instruct students, nursing staff, and graduate and novice physician assistants and nurse practitioners Requirements Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant studies required Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Registered Physician Assistant (RPA) registration with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Experience required Ability to instill patient confidence and ease communication Concern for patients' health and well-being Critical thinking and decisive judgment Ability to work with minimal supervision Exceptional documentation skills and professional behavior Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Proven ability to work in a team environment Ability to perform medium physical work, including exerting 20–50 pounds occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly Frequent walking, standing, or squatting Compliance with department-specific experience, educational, and continuing education requirements Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in patient care across various settings, including inpatient and outpatient environments, with a strong focus on orthopedic conditions.
