Principal Data Architect II, Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine

Principal Data Architect II role within AbbVie's Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine discovery research organization. This individual contributor position designs and implements cloud-native data platforms that enable AI/ML solutions across laboratory workflows, supporting multiple therapeutic modalities including monoclonal antibodies, AAV, and gene therapies.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive architecture for scalable, cloud-native data platform supporting AI/ML strategy in biotherapeutics discovery
• Design data models and integration patterns connecting laboratory datasets across multiple groups and establishing certified datasets
• Partner with wet lab scientists and automation engineers to maximize data value from lab automation workflows
• Collaborate with data scientists and deployment engineers to ensure pipelines support model development and production deployment
• Advance FAIR data practices and communicate platform impact through metrics demonstrating value to therapeutic program pipeline

Requirements

• MS with 14+ years or PhD with 8+ years in machine learning, computer science, applied mathematics, data science, or computational biology
• 6+ years data architecture experience designing enterprise data platforms post-graduate degree
• Graduate degree in computer science, data science, computational biology, or related field
• Strong technical expertise in data modeling, integration, storage solutions, pipelines, and AI/ML integration
• Production programming experience in SQL, Python, or Java; cloud infrastructure experience on AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Ability to work across wet lab and dry lab scientific workflows with strong cross-functional collaboration skills
• Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience preferred
