Accounting Manager

Sterling Floor Designs is a woman-owned, family-operated commercial flooring contractor that has served the industry for more than 45 years. We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to run our day-to-day accounting operation.

This is a working manager role, not a review-only seat. You'll personally own accounts payable, accounts receivable and progress billing, month-end close, payroll, and the construction compliance work that moves with every job, including certified payroll, prevailing wage, lien waivers, and insurance certificates. You'll also lead a three-person accounting team and support HR administration, safety tracking, and the office.

What You’ll Do

● Team Leadership: Manage, train, and mentor a three-person accounting team, including workload and day-to-day performance

● Accounts Payable: Vendor invoice entry and PO matching, weekly payment runs, monthly AP review, credit card and cash reconciliation, vendor follow-up, and quarterly NYS Office of General Services (OGS) vendor reporting

● Accounts Receivable & Progress Billing: Customer invoicing (including through GC billing portals), AIA G702/G703 requisitions, reconciling requisitions against approved change orders, payment posting, new customer setup, and collections

● Construction Compliance: Certified payroll, prevailing wage and Section 3 reporting, lien waivers and releases, customer and subcontractor certificates of insurance, subcontractor workers’ comp verification, prequalification applications, tax exemption certificates, and quarterly NYSIF and ST-810 filings

● General Accounting & Close: Month-end close in the ERP, including accruals and bank reconciliations; monthly sales tax filing; sales commission calculations; management reporting; audit support; and vendor and customer master file maintenance

● Payroll & HR Administration: Weekly payroll processing and journal entries, new hire setup, timesheet corrections, interview scheduling, incident reports, and safety training and toolbox talk tracking for field and warehouse staff

● Subcontractor Administration: Subcontractor invoice review and weekly subcontractor payments

● Office & Facilities: Weekly expense reporting, monthly inventory counts, mail and front-desk coverage, and coordinating vehicle and building maintenance

● Other duties as assigned. This is a broad role that will grow with the business.

What You Bring

● Experience running a construction (or similarly complex) accounting function, covering AP, AR, payroll, and compliance

● Working knowledge of AIA billing, retainage, and change orders

● New York prevailing wage and certified payroll experience (strongly preferred)

● Experience managing and training staff; prior experience leading a department is a plus

● Strong written and verbal communication skills

● Comfort owning a close calendar and meeting statutory filing deadlines

● Flexibility to support HR, safety, and office administration alongside core accounting

● Working knowledge of RollMaster ERP (or a comparable construction/distribution ERP), UKG/CSC payroll, monday.com, and intermediate-to-advanced Excel

● Experience with GC billing portals such as Textura, SBU, or DASNY is a plus
