Location: San Diego, CA

Compensation: $120,000 - $140,000 + Bonus (10%-15%)

Position Overview

Our client, a growing investment and operating company with a diversified portfolio of assets throughout the Western United States, is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join its accounting and finance team.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing monthly close activities, financial reporting, team development, process improvement initiatives, and internal controls across multiple entities. The Accounting Supervisor will work closely with operational leaders and senior management to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting while supporting strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness
• Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP
• Analyze financial results and investigate significant budget-to-actual variances
• Assist with preparation and review of financial reporting packages
• Support annual audits and other external reporting requirements

Technical Accounting

• Research and interpret accounting guidance and industry developments
• Apply GAAP to complex accounting transactions and business activities
• Assist with preparation of accounting position papers and technical memorandums
• Support implementation of new accounting standards and reporting requirements
• Identify and resolve complex accounting issues

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

• Evaluate and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting
• Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy
• Assist in developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with established accounting practices and reporting standards

Leadership & Team Development

• Supervise and mentor accounting staff
• Review work prepared by team members and provide coaching and feedback
• Assist with workload management, delegation, and staff development
• Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment

Systems & Operational Support

• Support administration and optimization of accounting systems and reporting tools
• Assist with ERP maintenance, entity setup, account structures, and cash management processes
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve reporting and operational effectiveness

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• CPA designation or advanced accounting degree preferred

Experience

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff
• Experience working in multi-entity environments
• Background in real estate, investment management, property operations, professional services, or other complex accounting environments preferred

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience with ASC 842, ASC 606, and other applicable accounting standards preferred
• Experience with ERP systems in multi-entity environments
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with reporting, research, and workflow automation tools is a plus
