RN Psychiatric Geriatric

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse at Montana State Hospital provides skilled nursing care and support to adult clients within a psychiatric inpatient setting, specializing in geriatric psychiatric nursing. The role involves nursing assessment, planning, interventions, and evaluation, as well as directing and training subordinate nursing personnel. The nurse maintains a therapeutic environment, administers medications, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in geriatric psychiatric nursing and hold a valid Montana RN license. Responsibilities:

• Perform nursing assessments, develop care plans, implement interventions, and evaluate patient progress.
• Provide psychiatric nursing care focused on geriatric patients, including medication administration and treatment planning.
• Maintain a therapeutic environment conducive to patient safety and recovery.
• Assign work and provide direction and training to subordinate nursing staff.
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and thoroughly.
• Collaborate effectively with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Utilize technology proficiently for patient care information systems.
• Apply de-escalation techniques to manage patient behavior safely and effectively.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Montana (or compact license).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in geriatric psychiatric nursing.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
• Knowledge of nursing, medications, psychopharmacology, and treatment planning.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to perform accurate patient assessments and documentation.
• Proficiency in using patient care information technology systems.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in psychiatric inpatient treatment programs.
• At least 1 year of travel nursing experience.
• Certification in CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention).

Special Considerations:

• Flexible to facility scheduling and shift assignments.
• Experience and skill in de-escalation techniques required.
• Work environment includes geriatric psychiatric care within a state hospital setting.
• Shift differential may be available.
• One meal provided per shift.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour shifts, typically from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
• Scheduling flexibility required to accommodate facility needs.
• Shift assignments may vary based on hospital requirements.
