• The Coding Assistant Developer Support Analyst will enable and guide developers in adopting and making the most effective, secure, and reliable use of AI coding assistants.
• The analyst will advocate for and promote the coding-assistant tools used at the company, helping developers understand their capabilities and incorporate them successfully into software development workflows.
• The role will also develop, maintain, and distribute reusable skills files and related resources for the company's developer community.
• This position combines software development consulting, developer support, technical enablement, and platform administration.
• GitHub Copilot will be the primary supported platform, with responsibility expected to expand to other coding assistants, such as Claude Code, as organizational needs and technologies evolve.
• This position will serve as a trusted technical resource for the developer community, helping teams integrate coding assistants into daily software development activities and achieve consistent, high-quality outcomes.
• The analyst will troubleshoot unexpected behavior, resolve configuration and access issues, develop reusable guidance and automation, and promote practices that align with the company's application development, security, compliance, and quality standards.
• The company's development community comprises numerous Technology Organization departments aligned with specific areas of the business and responsible for facilitating their effective use of technology.
• These departments are staffed by software developers and technology analysts who will be supported by this role.
• The successful candidate will demonstrate strong software development knowledge, advanced troubleshooting skills, excellent customer service, and the ability to translate developer needs into practical, enterprise-ready solutions.
• The analyst must be a self-starter who can work independently, collaborate across technical and business roles, and communicate effectively with developers, technical leads, architects, stakeholders, management, security teams, and platform administrators.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support and consultation to GitHub Copilot users, including assistance with access, configuration, integrations, effective use, troubleshooting, and unexpected behavior.
• Evangelize and advocate for the use of GitHub Copilot across the Southern Company development community by demonstrating its value, sharing effective practices, and encouraging responsible adoption.
• Develop, maintain, and distribute a shared resource library of reusable prompts, skills, instructions, agents, templates, examples, and supporting automation.
• Help developers adopt coding assistants and use them effectively across planning, design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, code review, modernization, and troubleshooting activities.
• Administer and support coding-assistant platforms, including access, licensing, policies, configuration, integrations, feature enablement, usage controls, and platform lifecycle activities.
• Diagnose and resolve issues involving authentication, authorization, entitlements, IDE integrations, command-line tools, extensions, configuration, network connectivity, context handling, model behavior, and unexpected or inconsistent results.
• Perform root cause analysis, document findings, identify corrective actions, and coordinate escalations with internal platform teams, security teams, vendors, and GitHub support when necessary.
• Create and maintain distributable skill files and technical content in Markdown, YAML, JSON, and other formats required by supported tools and development environments.
• Establish contribution, review, testing, release, documentation, and governance practices for shared coding-assistant assets.
• Provide expert consultation on prompt and context design, repository instructions, custom skills and agents, tool integrations, software architecture, application development practices, and appropriate use of AI-generated code.
• Help development teams tailor coding-assistant capabilities to their applications, repositories, technology stacks, SDLC processes, and CI/CD workflows.
• Develop reference implementations, demonstrations, onboarding materials, troubleshooting guides, FAQs, knowledge articles, and other technical documentation.
• Deliver developer onboarding, office hours, workshops, demonstrations, and targeted coaching for individuals and teams.
• Promote responsible use of coding assistants, including protection of confidential information, secure coding, intellectual-property considerations, human review, testing, traceability, and compliance with enterprise standards.
• Evaluate new coding-assistant features, models, integrations, and platforms; conduct pilots; assess risks and benefits; and recommend adoption approaches.
• Monitor platform health, recurring support trends, adoption barriers, and user feedback, and use findings to improve services, documentation, shared assets, and platform configuration.
• Support planning by providing accurate estimates, priorities, status reports, risk assessments, and timely delivery of commitments.
• Maintain awareness of rapid changes in AI-assisted software development and apply relevant capabilities to the organization's developer ecosystem.
• Innovate technology to solve information management problems.

Job Requirements:

• Advanced knowledge of software development technologies, methodologies, tools, and the software development lifecycle.
• Practical experience using GitHub Copilot or comparable AI coding assistants in professional software development.
• Strong understanding of GitHub repositories, Git workflows, pull requests, code review, repository administration, permissions, policies, and developer tooling.
• Ability to administer or support an enterprise technology platform, including access management, configuration, governance, integrations, release changes, incident resolution, and vendor escalation.
• Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across applications, IDEs, extensions, command-line tools, APIs, networks, authentication systems, and cloud services.
• Ability to distinguish product defects, configuration issues, environmental constraints, insufficient context, model limitations, and user-workflow issues.
• Ability to design, develop, validate, and maintain reusable Markdown-based instructions, skills, prompts, agents, templates, scripts, and structured configuration files.
• Strong understanding of application design principles, common algorithms, design patterns, software architectures, cloud architectures, object-oriented development, secure coding, testing, and maintainability.
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, maintainability, architectural fit, and compliance with enterprise standards.
• Mature understanding of Agile methodologies, SDLC practices, source control, automated testing, and CI/CD.
• Strong oral communication, technical writing, consultation, facilitation, and customer service skills.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts to audiences with different levels of experience.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, follow through on customer commitments, and work effectively with minimal supervision.
• Ability to learn emerging technologies quickly and apply them responsibly in an enterprise environment.

Technical Knowledge:

• 10 + Years applying technological knowledge, tools and techniques to create new products or improve existing ones.
• The successful candidate should possess broad knowledge of the technologies used by the supported developer community.
• Deep expertise in every technology is not required, but the candidate must be able to understand development scenarios, reproduce issues, evaluate coding-assistant output, and collaborate effectively with specialists working in:
• GitHub, GitHub Copilot, Git, pull requests, repository administration, and CI/CD
• Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, command-line development tools, and developer extensions.
• Microsoft C#, .NET Framework, .NET, and .NET Core.
• Angular, MudBlazor, Blazor, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Bootstrap and other responsive frameworks.
• REST services, service-oriented development, APIs, and ORM technologies
• SQL and relational databases.
• Azure cloud technologies, including Databricks, Azure Functions, and Azure Cognitive Services.
• Browser, mobile, Windows, web, console, batch, and ETL application environments
• XML schema definition and processing, including XSD, XPath, and XSLT.
• Industry-leading third-party UI controls, such as Telerik and Kendo.
• Markdown, YAML, JSON, scripting, and automation.
• AI coding assistants and agentic development tools, including GitHub Copilot and emerging platforms such as Claude Code.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Significant professional experience in software development, developer tooling, application support, platform administration, DevOps, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience designing, developing, supporting, or troubleshooting secure enterprise-grade software solutions in the Microsoft technology stack.
• Experience with GitHub Copilot, GitHub administration, developer enablement, or enterprise adoption of AI-assisted development tools is strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting developers across C#, .NET, web, cloud, service, data, mobile, batch, or ETL solutions is preferred.
• Experience developing reusable technical assets, managing shared repositories, and producing high-quality technical documentation is preferred.
• Experience with Azure cloud solutions is preferred.
• Experience working on or supporting Agile/Scrum teams is preferred.
• Experience leading developer training, technical consultations, communities of practice, office hours, or product-adoption initiatives is preferred.
