Unified Mechanical Group is hiring our first Project Manager to own commercial and industrial HVAC and mechanical projects from award through closeout.

$130,000 to $140,000 base salary depending on experience, plus a 10% to 20% annual bonus target. Company vehicle and fuel card, or a monthly stipend in lieu of the vehicle. Medical, dental and vision. 401(k) launching Q4 2026. Paid time off, paid holidays and paid sick leave.

Unified Mechanical Group is a commercial and industrial mechanical contractor serving Southern California. We self-perform HVAC construction, retrofit and service work across public works, healthcare, education, commercial and industrial facilities. Licensed under CSLB B, C-20 and C-38. Signatory to SMART Local 105, UA Local 250 and UA Local 364.

The Job

You will own your projects end to end: scope, schedule, budget, subcontractor buyout, submittals and RFIs, change orders, billing, the client relationship and closeout. You are accountable for whether the job finishes on time and on the margin it was sold at.

This is the first project management seat in the company. You are not inheriting somebody else’s system and you are not waiting behind anyone. You will report directly to the President.

Projects run from single unit changeouts and equipment replacements in occupied buildings to complete built-up systems on new construction.

What You Must Have

• Four or more years managing commercial or industrial HVAC and mechanical construction projects, owning complete projects rather than supporting someone else’s. This is a field-based mechanical construction role. It is not an IT, software, marketing, general office or residential construction project management position.

• Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings, specifications and submittals without assistance

• Working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems: air handling units, packaged rooftop equipment, split systems, VRF, hydronics, chilled water, boilers, ductwork, piping and controls

• Experience buying out and coordinating mechanical subcontractors

• Experience writing, pricing and negotiating change orders

• Accountability for a project budget and its margin, not just its schedule

• A valid California driver license and a clean driving record

• The ability to be on jobsites across Southern California and in our Jurupa Valley office

Helpful but not required: public works and prevailing wage experience, DSA or HCAI projects, work under SMART Local 105, UA Local 250 or UA Local 364 agreements, retrofit work in occupied buildings, design-build delivery, a field or sheet metal background, PMP or LEED AP credentials.

The Path

First you own the job. Then you own the process, because as the first project manager here you will build the standards rather than inherit them. Then you own the team, as backlog grows and the department grows with it. The title at the end of that path is Senior Project Manager. We are not putting dates on it, because we would be making them up, but nothing is blocking it from above.

What We Will Not Oversell

The templates are not done. The cost history is young. Some weeks you will build the tool before you use it. If what you want is a mature project management department with the process already written and a queue of work handed to you, this is not the right seat, and we would rather tell you that now than after you start.
