Job Description

Sunbelt Staffing is working with a Chicago-area school district seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher for a full-time contract assignment. This position provides an opportunity to deliver individualized instruction while helping students develop the academic, behavioral, and functional skills they need to succeed. The ideal educator will be comfortable collaborating with families, general education teachers, and related service providers to create a consistent support system for students.

Responsibilities

Provide specially designed instruction based on individual student needs and IEP objectives
Develop and implement engaging lessons with appropriate accommodations and modifications
Track student progress through classroom assessments, observations, and data collection
Review and update IEPs while maintaining accurate student records
Coordinate with general education teachers to support inclusive educational practices
Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility reviews, and multidisciplinary conferences
Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student development and educational goals
Establish a structured classroom environment that encourages participation and independence

Skills

Strong instructional planning and classroom management abilities
Ability to differentiate curriculum for diverse learners
Excellent written and verbal communication
Effective organization and caseload management
Collaborative approach to working with school-based teams
Ability to respond flexibly to changing student needs

Qualifications

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an appropriate Special Education endorsement
Authorization to provide special education services for the applicable student population
Understanding of IEP procedures and special education compliance requirements
Ability to meet district-specific onboarding and background requirements

Education

Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field
Master's degree is preferred but not required

Experience

Previous special education teaching experience preferred
Experience in resource, inclusion, or self-contained classrooms is beneficial
Teachers who are newly licensed are encouraged to apply

Compensation for this position ranges from $25.00 to $45.00. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
