Job Overview With a commitment to patient and family centered care, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed clinical team members, valuing the uniqueness of each individual and addressing the physiological, emotional, and social needs of diverse patients served by Jefferson Health. The PCT may collaborate with all clinical departments (including telehealth) and designated staff at the patient's site to facilitate and assist with telehealth encounters between patients and providers. Responsibilities Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family, and designated care partners. Performs validated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction of licensed clinical team members. Actively promotes and maintains a safe patient care environment. Assists in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations. Conducts patient rounds as assigned, anticipates patient needs, and responds to patient call light or pages promptly. Might be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs. Might be required to facilitate a clinical exam under the direction of a distant provider, utilizing peripheral devices, technology, and software to conduct a comprehensive virtual care encounter. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Knowledge of medical terminology and patient care needs and the role within an interprofessional team. Ability to complete delegated tasks within the scope of the role. Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and ability to apply this knowledge to patients in need on a daily basis. Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and ability to take steps to reduce these risks. Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and/or designated care partner in care. Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively. Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, and ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and health care. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. American Heart Association (AHA) certification. Additional Qualifications Will successfully complete LVHN's inexperienced technical partner course. Physical Demands Lifting and carrying 40–50 lbs. Examples: pushing or pulling patients on bed or stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of patient weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters may walk 8–10 miles per shift. Patient care providers may be required to kneel, bend, squat, or perform CPR. Work Shift Workday Night (United States of America).
