Volunteer Bookkeeper / Accountant

Since 2001, Earth Rights Institute (ERI) has united individuals, communities, and organizations to foster collaboration, innovate sustainable solutions, and empower communities around the world. We specialize in consulting with governments, corporations, and communities on climate action, bridging grassroots movements with institutional stakeholders to deliver justice, equity, and ecological harmony.
We are seeking a detail-oriented volunteer bookkeeper to help keep our finances organized as we continue to grow our impact.
What you'll do
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in QuickBooks
- Categorize income and expenses; reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly
- Generate periodic financial reports (P&L, balance sheet) for leadership review
- Assist with preparation for annual audit or tax filing (Form 990)
What we're looking for
- Proficiency in QuickBooks (Online or Desktop) — required
- Background in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related field
- Optional - Experience with nonprofit accounting a plus (fund accounting, 990 familiarity)
- Reliable, self-directed, and comfortable working remotely with a small team
- Passion for climate action, sustainability, or social justice a plus

Compensation & growth
This position begins as a volunteer role with a modest stipend. As Earth Rights Institute grows, we anticipate transitioning this into a paid part-time position for the right candidate.
