About the Position

Job Opportunity – Emergency Department Holding / Float Pool RN – North Carolina

Start Date: September 21, 2026

Location: Coastal North Carolina

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week. Every other weekend required. Target patient ratios: 1:6 for MS/Tele or 1:4 for PCU level patients. 12-hour orientation provided.

Highlights:

• Specialized ED Holding Unit supporting patients awaiting inpatient bed placement with diverse medical/surgical adult diagnoses
• Float pool position requiring flexibility to work ED Holding, Emergency Department, and Medical-Surgical areas as needed
• Contract lengths from 13+ weeks up to February 27, 2027, designed to support team through the busy holiday season
• Epic charting system with Pyxis medication management and SBAR communication protocols
• Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including Respiratory Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, Radiology, and Social Services
• Fast-paced, high-acuity environment caring for critically ill patients in a dynamic setting

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Active North Carolina or Compact RN license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start date
• Required clinical skills: MS/Tele, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring (unit-based and remote), rapid response team utilization, colostomy care, feeding tube management, renal failure, blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, heparin and insulin protocols, isolation precautions, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, airway management, and tracheostomy care
• Preferred skills: NIHSS certification, IV insulin protocols, hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, IV starts, CVA care, neuro surgery care, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac
• Willingness to float to Emergency Department and Medical-Surgical units as needed
• Availability to serve on Storm Team/Hurricane Team during catastrophic events or disasters

• Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8-10 hours, completed via Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge)
• All compliance testing must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
