Summus Healthcare is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our in-house lab.

This position requires an MLT certification.

The schedule for this position is full-time, with an afternoon/evening shift.

Expected work hours are from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., a 30-hour per week schedule.

This position does not perform blood banking or microbiology.

Position Summary:
The MLT accurately analyzes and reports all laboratory tests ordered by providers in a timely and efficient manner to aid in diagnosing and treating patients.

Position Responsibilities:

• Performs, analyzes, and documents quality control testing according to established protocol.
• Performs and results test procedures on patient specimens adhering to Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
• Enters or verifies patient results in computer accurately; observes and takes action on computer flags; i.e.: delta checks.
• Performs required Quality Control procedures and maintains records to ensure tests are performed within control limits.
• Recognizes errors and/or improbable results (delta checks) and takes appropriate action; correlates present results with the previous result before releasing the report.
• Proficiency test results within an established threshold.
• Performs daily and periodic preventative maintenance according to an established schedule.
• Ensures equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Participates in and promotes opportunities for continuing education and/or training to enhance technical skills.
• Takes appropriate action in correcting minor instrument problems using a troubleshooting guide.
• Provides accurate, appropriate, and courteous responses to technical questions and results inquiry as physicians and nursing team members requested.
• Communicates professionally and effectively; maintains collaborative positive relationships with patients, physicians, and peers both inside/outside the department.
• Completes required ongoing education & competency requirements.
• Attends Departmental Staff Meetings as required.
• Adheres to safety policies and procedures; maintains safe work habits.
• Accountable for maintaining required certifications.
• Ensures the requesting physician receives preliminary findings based on diagnostic criteria established for each procedure.
• Maintains proficiency in other areas of the department and provides support when needed.
• Performs duties in accordance with established policies and procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level Required:
Associate's Degree in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology

Licensure/Certification Required:
Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) through a nationally recognized accredited agency (i.e. ASCP)

Preferred:
BLS certification (through an approved AHA program)

Experience Required:

• Previous experience as a clinical technician or in another related field
• Familiarity with common medical terminology
• Experience in a laboratory setting
