THE POSITION The Real Estate Appraiser position with the Department of Transportation offers an opportunity to apply analytical skills in real estate valuation. This role involves examining properties, studying market trends, and contributing to highway projects. You will work with owners, attorneys, and appraisal professionals and build a career in real estate valuation. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This role supports highway improvement projects by researching property details, conducting site visits, and developing fair and accurate appraisals. It ensures land acquisitions meet legal standards and reflect true market conditions. Duties include: Property Research: Review ownership records, deed descriptions, and zoning information to understand property details. Field Evaluation: Visit properties to inspect conditions, interview owners, and gather essential information. Valuation Methods: Determine appropriate appraisal approaches and analyze comparable sales and market trends. Report Preparation: Develop complete appraisal reports, update valuations, and provide documentation for hearings. Legal Support: Testify at hearings, assist staff attorneys, and supply information for claim settlements. Technical Guidance: Support project teams by reviewing appraisals and advising on policy compliance. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. Telework requires a securely configured high-speed internet connection and an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If telework is not available, you may report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change. Additional details may be provided during the interview. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin at the starting annual salary of $53,008 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements: This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser certification. This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license. Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement.
