Supervisory Accountant

Duties for the position may include but not limited to:

• Planning, establishing and maintaining a commercial-type double entry accounting system covering several appropriations, one revolving fund, general post funds, personal funds of patients, research, grants and construction appropriations, the overall budget is over $750,000,000.
• Maintaining appropriate daily transactions and updating records, computer-generated hard copy listing, subsidiary journals, operating ledger accounts and fund control points.
• Develop and maintain such controls as may be necessary to assure that accounting records accurately reflect the financial condition of VANCHCS.
• Overall supervision of twelve employees consisting of eight in the Accounting Section (two Staff Accountant, one Supervisory Accountant, four Accounting Technicians and one Travel Clerk), two in the office of the Agent Cashier located at on Mare Island (the Agent Cashier and AR assistance), two in the office of the Alternate Cashier located at the Mather hospital (Alternate Cashier and Travel Clerk assistance) and one Alternate Cashier at the Martinez campus.
• Plans work to be completed, set priorities, assigns work schedules, monitors progress and directs work flow to ensure completion, evaluates performance of the above employees, interviews new employees and initiates recommendations concerning personnel actions such as appointment, promotion, or reassignment.
• Gives advice or instruction to employees on technical and administrative matters, hears and resolves complaints from employees, identifies training needs and develops methods to provide the necessary training, participates in the training of new accounting employees and oversees the cross-training of employees.
• Ascertaining that sufficient cash is available for the disbursement of funds of such purposes as personal services, travel, supplies, services and equipment.
• Preparation, analysis, and submission of a variety of financial statements and reports to local management, VACO management, and other agencies or organizations which includes, Annual Report of Real Property, Annual Certification of Accounting Records, Audit of VA Consolidated Financial Statements (8AF-058), and other recurring and non-recurring reports.

Work Schedule: Monday Through Friday 08:00 - 04:30pm
