Mobile Diesel Mechanic II - Day Shift $3,000 New Hire Bonus

Hiring for a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II at Cox Fleet by Cox Automotive, headquartered in Indianapolis. This role involves mobile/field services for light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles. Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Carry out minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, steering, diesel, transmissions, clutches, and differentials. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and test instruments. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions. Road‑test vehicles to verify proper operation. Identify problems, assess accuracy, and generate options using sound judgment. Independently manage parts inventory and maintain the company‑issued service truck, including safety checks, pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, and reconciliation. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Document work on Repair Orders using the company iOS device and TRAIT application, including photographs and parts used. Accurately complete DOT and other required forms. Maintain a high level of productivity and meet standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed. Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase order numbers, and RO findings. Operate in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT). Qualifications High School Diploma or GED plus at least 3 years of related experience; a higher degree or additional certification may substitute for experience. Must possess a set of hand tools required for the duties. Must obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months. Ability to pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical; a valid DOT medical card with at least four months remaining may be used in lieu of the physical. Minimum age 21 due to interstate operating authority regulations. Valid driver’s license in the state of residence and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File. Current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining, or a DOT physical if less than four months. Safe driving record is required. Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Certification Requirements Required: ASE T8 (PMI) within 18 months. Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), 608/609.
