BE A PART OF THE HAZARDOUS AGENT MITIGATION & MEDICAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM The mission of the Secret Service Special Operations Division's Hazardous Agent Mitigation & Medical Emergency Response (HAMMER) Team is to provide hazardous agent mitigation, emergency medical intervention, and extrication support to our protective details. In close coordination with other United States Secret Service (Secret Service) tactical elements, protective details, and medical units, HAMMER can respond into a hazardous, toxic, or lethal environment to locate, extract, decontaminate, and provide life-saving medical interventions for Secret Service protectees. HAMMER personnel utilize cutting-edge monitoring technology to survey the immediate vicinity around the protectee for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Candidates are required to complete an intensive 13-week training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA, followed by specialized 18-week training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD. Failure to pass the training program may result in separation from the Secret Service. This assignment to HAMMER is permanent, contingent upon successful completion of the required specialized training, and continued ability to meet all requirements of the position (e.g., medical requirements, continuing training, fitness standards, etc.) Additional information *Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $75,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service HAMMER specialized training. A second installment of $15,000 will be paid following one year of service post specialized training and an acceptable performance rating. The third installment of $20,000 will be paid after a third year of service post specialized training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $25,000 will be paid after a fourth year of service post specialized training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a four-year Continuing Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive.
