Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position at a Magnet-designated academic medical center in Madison, WI, requiring critical care background and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Inpatient PACU setting at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center and nationally recognized academic teaching hospital in Madison, WI
• Phase I PACU with a varied surgical patient population including general, cardiac, neuro/spine, ortho, thoracic, transplant, vascular, robotics, bariatrics, and more
• Patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:2
• Day/Evening shifts, 4x10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday; shift start times range between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM depending on scheduling and operational needs
• On-call shifts on weekends may be required based on operational needs, approximately 1–2 weekend call shifts during the assignment
• Epic EMR experience required
• Floating required as needed

Requirements

• Active WI or Compact RN license required
• Current AHA ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of acute care PACU or ICU experience within the last 3 years
• Strong ICU/PACU background required; critical care experience is essential
• Experience working pre- and post-operatively with varied surgical patient populations required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
• Travel nursing experience is not required, but a strong clinical background is essential
• Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
• Academic/teaching hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provides Phase I post-anesthesia recovery care across a broad range of surgical specialties and anesthesia types including general, spinal, MAC, nerve blocks, and epidural
• Key clinical skills include dysrhythmia recognition and management, arterial line management, care of ventilated patients, ICP monitoring, IV vasopressors, emergency medications, and malignant hyperthermia protocol
• A telemetry competency exam must be passed prior to starting the assignment — candidates have up to three attempts; the adult exam requires 100% identification of lethal rhythms and a passing score of 80% or higher, and the pediatric exam requires 80% or higher
• If a candidate fails the second attempt on the telemetry exam, a certificate of completion from a cardiac interpretation review course must be submitted before a third attempt is granted
• On-site parking requires a permit through UW Transportation; alternative transportation options include bus, park & ride, and private parking
