Phlebotomy Lead

Introduction We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and detail-oriented Phlebotomy Lead to oversee all aspects of blood draws and laboratory operations at The Wright Center. This role is responsible for drawing blood in-house and overseeing the workflow, performance alignment, and communication related to our contracted laboratory service provider. Overview The Phlebotomy Lead will serve as the point person for anything that touches the lab: specimen collection, processing, quality control, laboratory service provider, troubleshooting issues, and educating the team. This role requires someone with strong technical phlebotomy skills, high attention to detail, and a leadership mindset focused on safety, efficiency, and personalized care. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Phlebotomy & Guest Care Perform high-quality blood draws with precision, gentleness, and compassion. Provide concierge-level care by preparing guests, explaining procedures, and ensuring comfort throughout the experience. Maintain strict adherence to safety standards, infection control, and proper specimen handling protocols. Lab Oversight & Quality Assurance Oversee all processes related to specimen collection, labeling, processing, packaging, and timely transfer to laboratory service provider. Ensure all tubes, requisitions, orders, and documentation are completed accurately and error-free. Troubleshoot issues related to lab orders, specimen rejection, missing information, or laboratory service provider interface challenges. Maintain lab equipment, supply inventory, and ensure readiness at all times. Uphold precise chain-of-custody policies to protect sample integrity and guest safety. Coordination With Laboratory Service Provider Serve as the primary liaison with laboratory service provider for courier schedules, supply ordering, unresolved specimen questions, and workflow optimization. Communicate trends or recurring issues and collaborate with lab partners to ensure smooth and reliable operations. Team Leadership & Education Train and support team members performing phlebotomy or lab-related tasks to ensure accuracy and consistency. Reinforce best practices, provide ongoing coaching, and uphold TWC's clinical and guest-service standards. Offer education to the team and guests around lab processes, expectations, and results-related workflows. Process Improvement & Collaboration Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and streamline lab workflows. Work closely with clinical, ANS, ultrasound, and FOH teams to ensure smooth guest flow across all diagnostic services. Maintain open communication with providers regarding lab-related questions, urgent draws, or special testing needs. Requirements Skills & Qualifications Certified phlebotomist or clinical professional with extensive phlebotomy experience. Strong knowledge of lab processes, specimen handling, and safety protocols. Exceptional attention to detail- especially with labeling, documentation, and order entry. Excellent communication skills and a compassionate, guest-centered approach. Ability to troubleshoot issues independently and maintain calm in a fast-paced environment. Experience leading or training others is preferred.
