Our organization is on the lookout for a fellowship-trained, board-eligible or board-certified cardiothoracic anesthesiologist to join our Cardiac Anesthesia section within the Department of Anesthesiology. Our cardiac anesthesiologists play a vital role in a comprehensive adult cardiac surgery program, which encompasses coronary revascularization, valve repair and replacement, aortic surgery, and an advanced heart failure program that includes heart transplantation and LVAD implantation. The division also manages a well-established structural heart program (TAVR, mitral and tricuspid interventions) and a busy electrophysiology and cardiac catheterization service. Additionally, our facility hosts a pediatric and congenital heart program, allowing interested cardiac faculty to engage in congenital cases. Most cardiac anesthesiologists also provide anesthesia for liver transplantation, while thoracic surgery and major vascular cases complete the practice. Perioperative TEE is a key component of our work, and faculty are encouraged to enhance and maintain their echocardiography skills and certification.

In contrast to many academic cardiac divisions, our team is not restricted to cardiac operating rooms and cath labs. Our cardiac anesthesiologists also practice general anesthesia alongside their cardiac responsibilities, with access to the same clinical assignments and locations as the rest of the faculty. This allows for a comprehensive experience in the specialty rather than limiting it to a subspecialty. The practice includes a Level I trauma center, two surgical specialty hospitals within our health system, and a busy ambulatory surgery center. The diverse case mix encompasses major abdominal, orthopedic, vascular, neurosurgical, ENT, and urologic cases, as well as trauma, obstetrics, and non-operating-room anesthesia. Resident supervision typically follows a 1:2 ratio, with CRNA supervision ranging from 1:2 to 1:4.

Our cardiac anesthesiologists, along with cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, perfusionists, intensivists, and nursing staff, form a cohesive team that collaborates on case planning, outcome reviews, and enjoys each other's company. Cardiac faculty supervise residents during their cardiac and general rotations, as well as our ACGME-accredited adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship, focusing on perioperative echocardiography, hemodynamic management, and the care of patients with advanced heart failure and mechanical support. The quality of this clinical training is reflected in our graduates, who are highly sought after by both private practices and academic institutions. Our organization is an academic health system that includes an anesthesiology residency, fellowship programs in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology, acute pain and regional anesthesiology, liver transplant, and critical care, along with an active clinical research program. Cardiac faculty have a clear academic advancement path with support for promotions, and leadership opportunities are available in various areas, including division leadership, advanced heart failure, heart transplant, mechanical circulatory support, liver transplant anesthesia, structural heart, echocardiography education, quality and outcomes, and clinical research.

The anticipated total annual compensation ranges from $462,000 to $562,000. The starting base salary is between $450,000 and $520,000, adjusted based on experience and faculty rank. Total compensation exceeding the base salary reflects variable and productivity-based pay as outlined in the department's compensation plan. Faculty interested in additional work can increase their earnings through incentivized clinical activities, extra shifts, and on-call duties. Specific details will be discussed during the recruitment process.

Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship and be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Advanced Perioperative TEE certification or eligibility is expected. Experience or interest in liver transplant anesthesia is a plus; training will be provided for those new to transplant.
