The Scientific Program Manager (Career Development) works closely with global scientists and healthcare professionals to advance collaborative science in thoracic cancers. This position will develop, manage, execute, and evaluate global grant and award programs and career development initiatives for IASLC’s multidisciplinary membership. The Scientific Program Manager position requires a mission-oriented focus and exceptional communication skills. This full-time, exempt position has supervisory responsibility and reports to the Director, Scientific Affairs. The Scientific Program Manager works a hybrid schedule out of our downtown Denver office. Essential Functions: Provide oversight and management of the IASLC Career Development portfolio of programs designed to develop, support, and sustain thoracic researchers throughout their careers. Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Career Development Committee on the full cycle of program development, execution, and evaluation, providing project management and administrative support. Work effectively across internal departments to manage the full lifecycle of a portfolio of global Career Development programs, including program design, application processes, application review coordination, participant selection, and execution of virtual and in-person activities. Programs include the IASLC Academy, International Mentorship Program, and Leadership Development Program. Manage a portfolio of global grant and award programs, including program development, application processes, peer review, award selection, and post-award tracking. Provide effective supervision and development for the Grants Coordinator, including regular team and individual feedback meetings, performance management/evaluation, and distribution and efficient scheduling of work assignments to meet established timelines. Accurately represent the IASLC management perspective in staff interactions. Proactively contribute to building a positive staff culture, addressing communication gaps, constructively resolving team conflicts, and holding team members accountable for results. Help develop, execute, and manage budgets, contracts, and agreements. Track expenditures and suggest cost‑saving measures. Communicate scientific and medical content to a variety of audiences including healthcare professionals, scientists, and people with lung cancer and their loved ones. Support the preparation and development of scientific and medical content for grants, proposals, website, project materials, and publications. Proactively implement organizational and project management tools and software to increase work efficiency and standardize departmental processes and workflows. Provide exceptional member service and overall support to IASLC members, partners, and stakeholders. Ensure that processes related to your assigned areas are documented and updated regularly. Stay current on recent advances and emerging trends in thoracic oncology research and treatments. Attend and participate in scientific activities at IASLC‑sponsored meetings and events, as assigned. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. Other duties as assigned. Requirements CURRENT RESUME OR CV AND COVER LETTER REQUIRED FOR CONSIDERATION. Minimum Qualifications: A strong commitment to the mission of IASLC and compassion for those living with a lung cancer diagnosis. Graduate degree in a scientific, public health, or healthcare field; advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, etc.) preferred. Minimum of 3-4 years of relevant work experience in a project management or healthcare administration role. Working knowledge of grants management and/or professional career development programs. Scientific or medical background or knowledge in lung cancer or oncology. Understanding of career development pathways for scientists and healthcare professionals. Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple scientific committees and/or projects, including project timelines, schedules, and documentation. Proficiency in using technology such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, virtual meeting platforms, and project management software with ability to learn additional software quickly and effectively. Ability to work flexible hours when required. Ability to travel in support of IASLC business needs. Preferred Qualifications: Scientific or medical background in oncology. Experience with thoracic cancer preferred. Prior experience with grants management or career development programs highly preferred. Previous work experience in a nonprofit, scientific, medical, research or academic organization. Project management experience or certification a plus. International experience and multicultural sensitivity. Multilingual fluency and/or literacy a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to interact professionally, diplomatically, and effectively with external stakeholders and co‑workers. Must learn and implement positive and effective techniques for supervising and mentoring assigned staff, including establishing accountability and providing timely, meaningful feedback. Project management mindset, including having the ability to see the big picture, anticipate and plan for next steps, and manage communication with stakeholders to ensuring the timely completion of project‑related tasks. Ability to effectively manage multiple simultaneous projects in different stages of progress or development to ensure that milestones and deadlines are achieved. Must be highly organized, have high attention to detail, and have strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi‑task in a dynamic environment. Ability to build and maintain productive business relationships that positively represent the IASLC and its programs. Cooperative, positive attitude; ability to collaborate professionally and effectively with staff and members. Ability to effectively solve problems in an independent, effective, and timely manner. Ability to comprehend, prioritize, and manage complex scientific information. Deep appreciation and respect for international cultural differences. Physical Demands: Ability to sit at computer workstation for extended periods. Ability to lift/move 25-40 pounds on an occasional basis. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. Work Environment: Open office environment with computer workstations. Frequent use of phone and virtual meeting platforms.
