Catering Inventory Steward

Pay: $24 per hour
Position: Regular part-time, with potential to become full-time
Location: On-site in Tribeca, New York City

Olivier Cheng Catering and Events is a luxury catering company based in Tribeca. We produce private celebrations, fashion and cultural events, fundraising galas, corporate gatherings, and intimate dinners throughout New York City.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys getting things organized—and keeping them that way—to look after equipment and supplies returning from our events.

You’ll count returned items, check their condition, report anything missing or damaged, and put everything back where it belongs. Most of the work involves equipment and service items, along with linens, beverages, and disposables. Dishwashers handle most washing and polishing; you’ll coordinate with them and do occasional spot cleaning before storage.

Returns are the priority, followed by outbound equipment packing. You may also help pack food or take on other practical kitchen and storage tasks when needed. You’ll report to the Culinary Operations Manager.

Your first assignments will include helping the operations team reorganize the storage area and shadowing the porter team to learn current procedures. The culinary operations team will train you, review work with you, and provide regular check-ins.

Written receiving procedures and checklists still need to be developed. We welcome your observations and suggestions for making the area easier to maintain and will consider changes that fit our systems and standards.

• Receive event returns and count items against printed pack-outs—the lists of equipment and supplies sent to each event.

• Inspect items for damage, missing pieces, and cleanliness before returning them to storage.

• Maintain inventory lists and receiving records and report discrepancies to the Culinary Operations Manager.

• Separate items needing washing, polishing, repair, or further inspection, and coordinate with the dishwashing team.

• Spot-clean items as needed and return clean equipment to its designated location.

• Keep storage areas organized and help with inventory counts.

• Pull, count, pack, label, and check outbound equipment when needed.

• Help the food-packing team count, organize, label, and pack food according to team instructions and food-handling procedures.

• Occasionally help load or unload vehicles. Driving is not part of the job.

• Keep receiving and storage areas clean and help with other kitchen, packing, and organizational tasks as assigned.

• At least one year of experience in catering, hospitality, restaurants, receiving, inventory, warehouse operations, or fulfillment.

• Accurate counting and the ability to follow printed packing lists.

• Care when handling fragile or high-value equipment.

• An eye for damage, missing pieces, and items that need attention before reuse.

• The ability to keep returns from different events organized.

• Reliability, clear communication, and willingness to help when priorities change.

• Spanish-English bilingual ability is helpful but not required.

This is a regular part-time position, with approximately 24 hours per week. Typical shifts run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You’ll have input into your workdays and start times around operational needs. Some weekend availability is required.

Schedules are generally shared two weeks ahead. We may offer additional shifts at shorter notice, but those requests are optional if you are unavailable.

The position could become full-time based on performance and business needs.

This is an active inventory and storage job. Duties include lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing and walking for extended periods; bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; and using stairs while carrying equipment.

You’ll also move carts and supplies and work in kitchen, refrigerated, storage, and outdoor loading areas.
