School Social Worker in New Orleans, LA

Job Description

Step into a dynamic school-based environment as a Social Worker focused on pupil appraisal in the vibrant New Orleans area. In this full-time, contract position, you will support the assessment and eligibility process for Special Education services alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team. Your expertise will directly impact the academic success and well-being of students as you serve an important function within the Pupil Appraisal Department.

Key Qualifications:

Current and active Louisiana Department of Education certificate and professional social work license required
Prior experience in a school environment or working with school-aged children preferred
Familiarity with Special Education evaluation and eligibility processes (evaluations, re-evaluations, and testing)
Comfortable with an itinerant schedule, traveling between 2-3 school buildings
Able to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including School Psychologists and Educational Diagnosticians
Must complete required district and agency credentialing steps (background check, drug screening)
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple cases and coordinate interventions

Primary Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough student evaluations and help determine qualification for Special Education services
Carry out re-evaluations and participate in formal testing as needed
Attend SBLC/ABIT meetings to discuss academic and behavioral interventions
Monitor implemented strategies and coordinate student evaluations
Maintain detailed documentation and contribute to assessment reports
Liaise with families, educators, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive support for students
Follow the full-time Monday-Friday school calendar schedule (35 hours per week), with occasional travel across assigned buildings
