School-Based Social Worker - Gretna, Louisiana

Job Description

Step into a vital role supporting students’ educational journeys as a school social worker in the New Orleans area. This full-time, contract opportunity features an immediate start and continues through the end of the school year. You’ll work with the Pupil Appraisal Department, focusing on student evaluations and collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to help determine special education eligibility. This itinerant position serves 2-3 local schools, primarily handling school-age children and middle to high school students, according to district needs.

Your main responsibilities will emphasize pupil appraisal rather than traditional social work counseling. Key duties include conducting evaluations and re-evaluations, administering testing, attending Academic Behavior Intervention Team meetings, tracking student interventions, and coordinating with both school psychologists and educational diagnosticians.

Qualifications and Experience:

Current Louisiana Department of Education certification for School Social Work
Valid Louisiana professional social work license
Previous experience in school-based social work, especially with pupil appraisal, highly valued
Ability to complete district-specific credentialing requirements, including fingerprinting and a drug screen
Strong assessment, documentation, and teamwork skills
Comfort working across multiple campuses and adapting to changing school assignments

Key Responsibilities:

Complete pupil appraisals, evaluations, and re-evaluations for special education eligibility
Conduct and interpret testing for the student population
Participate actively in SBLC and ABIT meetings
Monitor and document interventions for students
Effectively communicate findings and coordinate services with staff and families
