Human Resources Specialist

Job Summary A Human Resources Specialist is needed for a temp-to-hire opportunity in Columbia, SC. This role supports day-to-day HR operations with a strong focus on onboarding, benefits administration, employee records, HRIS updates, and employee support. Key Responsibilities Coordinate new hire onboarding, including paperwork, orientation, employment verification, and benefits enrollment. Assist employees with benefits questions related to health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, leave programs, and other employee programs. Maintain accurate employee records, personnel files, HRIS data, payroll updates, and employee status changes. Support HR compliance processes, including I-9 documentation, employment eligibility verification, and policy administration. Assist with recruitment activities such as job postings, applicant tracking, interview coordination, and pre-employment processes. Prepare HR reports, correspondence, employee documentation, and other administrative HR materials as needed. Compensation and Benefits Pay range: $24 to $26 per hour. Job type: Temp-to-Hire. Location: Columbia, SC. Required Qualifications and Skills Coordinate employee onboarding, orientation, employment verification, and benefits enrollment. Maintain HRIS records, personnel files, payroll updates, and employee documentation. Support benefits administration, HR compliance, I-9 processes, and employee policy questions. Assist with recruitment coordination, reporting, and general HR department operations. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field. 3 to 5 years of relevant Human Resources experience. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to handle confidential employee and company information with professionalism. Strong customer service mindset and ability to respond effectively to employee and manager questions. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience with employee onboarding and benefits administration. Experience working with HRIS, payroll, or applicant tracking systems. Working knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance requirements. Experience supporting I-9 documentation and employment eligibility verification. Experience with employee relations support, policy administration, and recruitment coordination.
