Can you turn a CAD file into finished parts without help?

If your answer is yes, Downtime Rebuild in Cincinnati wants to talk. We’re looking for a plate processing expert who independently operates a CNC plasma table and contributes across fabrication and welding. Our engineers create the drawings in AutoCAD/SolidWorks; you own the transformation from file to finished component. Training on basic CNC plasma operation won’t be provided—this is a role for a proven operator.

Your challenge

1. Accept drawing/production files from engineering and import them into the plasma table’s software/controller.
2. Verify nests and layouts, select correct material and thickness, choose consumables, and dial in cut settings.
3. Load and position raw material on the table, run the job start-to-finish, and keep a close eye on edge quality.
4. Troubleshoot torch, nozzle, and consumable issues; make adjustments to maintain accuracy and consistency.
5. Inspect every part prior to fabrication/assembly ; measure twice, cut once, verify always.
6. Read and apply blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
7. Fabricate metal components from raw stock and perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding as needed.
8. Use grinders, saws, press brakes, calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools.
9. Maintain a safe, clean workstation and care for the equipment you run.

What you bring

• Proven, independent CNC plasma table operation in a fab/manufacturing environment.
• Ability to clearly describe your end-to-end process—from receiving the file to delivering finished cut parts.
• Experience loading files, setting materials and parameters, operating the table, and validating results.
• Metal fabrication and welding experience.
• Blueprint literacy; comfort with technical drawings and specs.
• Competence with calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and measurement gauges.
• High attention to detail; quality and safety mindset; self-sufficient work style.

Not a fit if your experience is only

• Handheld/manual plasma cutting without CNC table operation.
• Welding parts prepared by someone else.
• Watching/assisting another operator without independently setting up and running the table.
• Requiring basic CNC plasma training.

Bonus skills

• Experience with Lincoln, Torchmate, or similar CNC plasma tables.
• AutoCAD or SolidWorks familiarity (drawings supplied by engineering).
• Experience with press brakes and broader fab equipment.

Compensation

$25–$35 per hour, based on experience.
