Job Description Position Title: District Mental Health Coordinator Reports To: Director of Positive School Climate and Culture Scope: District-wide, Howell Public Schools (11 buildings, PreK-12) Status: Full-Time (FTE 1.0) Monday - Friday Work Year: 11 months (August - June); 192 work days (Start and year to be determined) FLSA Status: Exempt Union Affiliation: Non-affiliated
SUMMARY
The District Mental Health Coordinator serves as a credentialed clinical partner to the Director of Positive School Climate and Culture, providing clinical supervision and consultation to HPS's 31aa-funded mental health professionals and leading the district-wide implementation of mental health and suicide prevention priorities. This position brings clinical authority and a dedicated focus on implementation to a district that has made significant investments in student mental health infrastructure.ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Supervision & Staff Consultation Provide regular clinical supervision and consultation to 31aa-funded general education mental health professionals across all HPS buildings Support district staff in navigating complex student mental health situations, including suicide risk assessment, trauma response, crisis response and tiered intervention decisions Serve as a credentialed clinical resource for building administrators managing student behavior, including school avoidance, rooted in trauma or mental health needs Facilitate cross-building collaboration among mental health professionals to promote shared practice, reduce isolation, and strengthen collective capacity Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Implementation Lead district-wide implementation of mental health and suicide prevention priorities Ensure consistent activation of suicide prevention protocols and crisis response procedures across all buildings Support and strengthen building-level crisis response teams following critical incidents Monitor implementation fidelity and outcomes across buildings, reporting progress to the Director of Positive School Climate and Culture Training & Capacity-Building Facilitate annual and ongoing training for counselors and mental health staff on HPS suicide prevention processes and protocols. Provide training for teachers and building staff on recognizing students in distress and responding appropriately when a student expresses suicidal ideation or self-harm Support new staff onboarding related to mental health protocols, referral pathways, and district expectations Systems Support & Gap Analysis Partner with the Director of Positive School Climate and Culture to identify gaps in HPS mental health systems and strengthen Tier 2 and Tier 3 support identification and processing Coordinate universal screening data review and support building teams in using data to drive tiered support decisions Maintain current documentation of mental health supports, referral resources, and community partnerships across all buildingsQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related clinical field. Must hold one of the following credentials: MSW, LPC, LLMSW, or equivalent licensure/certification recognized by the State of Michigan. Experience in school-based mental health settings preferred Demonstrated competency in clinical supervision, suicide risk assessment, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention. Experience working within a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework preferred. Demonstrated competency in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention. Experience with a diverse student and parent population.QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Ability to provide compassionate, empathic support to students, families, and school staff experiencing distress. Strong clinical judgment and ability to navigate complex, multi-system mental health situations. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally across audiences (students, families, staff, administrators). Ability to build effective working relationships across buildings and with community partners. Knowledge of current evidence-based practices in school mental health, suicide prevention, and trauma-informed care. Ability to facilitate professional development and training for diverse staff audiences. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities across buildings with minimal supervision. Proficient in problem-solving and data-informed decision-making. Ability to operate standard office technology and maintain accurate records and documentation. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board policies In-person attendance is required. Other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Salary is in accordance with the Non-Affiliated salary scale, depending upon experience.
