What You’ll Do In-House Coordinator : Designated Work Area – Tampa General Hospital. You will directly contribute to LifeLink’s life-saving mission. This role combines responsibilities of a Family Care Coordinator and a clinical educator for a designated hospital/system. The primary duty is to coordinate information with hospital and LifeLink staff to evaluate and respond to hospital referrals to determine potential organ/tissue donation. Responsibilities include applying LifeLink policies and documenting the approach, honoring donor designation, conducting medical/social behavioral interviews of family members to offer donation options, and coordinating with hospital staff to support organ and tissue recovery. You will also perform unit rounding, hospital staff follow-up, and other recovery-related duties. This role emphasizes building and maintaining strong relationships with hospital staff to facilitate successful donor recovery. Key Responsibilities Development: In partnership with the assigned Hospital Development Liaison Act as primary communication link between LifeLink staff and hospital staff Develop and maintain relationships Maintain high visibility on all shifts Identify potential donor referrals in collaboration with hospital staff and update appropriately Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) activities for the OPO as outlined in the OPO Quality Assessment Performance Improvement Plan Attend Hospital Development initiatives such as Donor Advisory Committees Participate in OPO meetings, special projects, and activities as directed Family Care Coordinator/Clinical Provide coverage as assigned Screen referrals to ensure timely response and appropriate hospital collaboration for initial and follow-up referrals Offer recommendations to hospital staff on catastrophe brain injury guidelines (CBIG) to preserve donation opportunities Referral, pre-authorization, and authorization responsibilities include: Evaluate referrals for brain death donation (BDD) or donation after circulatory death (DCD) with the appropriate tools Determine suitability in concert with AOC and MDOC Follow Florida statute 765.512 order of priority for authorization and donor disclosure Communicate effectively with AOC, MDOC, and on-call team Review patient medical records and complete physical assessment Review donor information with hospital personnel With AOC, determine appropriate times for family discussions and donor authorization or disclosure Document referrals and case details, including family dynamics Post-Authorization Support families with all appropriate information Notify the call team of authorization/donor disclosure outcomes Follow up with families with the transplant coordinator and on-call administrator Update information according to FCC guidelines Case Initiation Initiate case start order set Obtain specimens for infectious disease testing, HLA tissue typing, and cultures Perform other recovery-related duties as directed by the Administrator on Call Participate in OPO meetings, special projects, and activities as directed Engage in initiatives to improve donor conversations, cultural sensitivity, and overcoming barriers to donation Who You Are Passionate about helping others and making a difference Aligned with LifeLink’s core values of Compassion, Excellence, Legacy, People, and Quality Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Nursing, Social Services, Allied Health, or a related field (RN, BA, BS, or AA), or equivalent combination of education and relevant hospital and/or OPO critical care experience Ability to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as well as non-scheduled hours when necessary Ability to apply sound judgment and flexibility, working autonomously with regular communication with the manager Strong presentation and interpersonal skills with good written and verbal communication Physical ability to lift, carry, and move equipment from 1 to 75 pounds for about 5% of work time Reliable vehicle with good driving record and current driver’s license Working Conditions Pleasant, team-oriented environment with daily travel within the assigned service area. 24-hour availability via cell phone and late-night hours.
