Events & Community Coordinator
Asiyah Women's Center
Job Description
Events & Community Coordinator
\nOrganization: Asiyah Women’s Center
\nLocation: Brooklyn, NY
\nPosition: Full-Time, On-Site
\n \nAbout Asiyah Women’s Center
\nAsiyah Women’s Center is the first women’s emergency center in New York City and New Jersey dedicated to serving Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, South Asian (AMEMSA) and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.
\n \nWe provide emergency housing, crisis intervention, and wraparound services for survivors of domestic violence and women experiencing eviction or homelessness. Our work is rooted in dignity, safety, cultural responsiveness, and helping women and families build long-term stability.
\n \nPosition Overview
\n \nAsiyah Women’s Center is seeking a creative, highly organized, and relationship-driven Events & Community Coordinator to lead the organization’s events, volunteer engagement, community partnerships, and public-facing initiatives.
\n \nThis is not simply an event logistics position. We are looking for someone who can take an idea from concept to execution—developing creative events and community initiatives, building the partnerships needed to make them successful, coordinating volunteers and vendors, and overseeing the details required to deliver polished, meaningful experiences.
\nThe Events & Community Coordinator will serve as one of Asiyah’s primary relationship-builders in the community and will play an important role in expanding the network of people, organizations, businesses, volunteers, and institutions connected to our mission.
\n \nEvents & Special Initiatives
\n \nThe Events & Community Coordinator will take ownership of Asiyah’s community-facing events and special initiatives from beginning to end.
\n \nResponsibilities include:
\n- \n
- Develop creative concepts for community events, fundraisers, volunteer activations, awareness campaigns, workshops, markets, gatherings, and special initiatives. \n
- Lead full-scale events from initial concept through planning, execution, and post-event follow-up. \n
- Develop event timelines, project plans, budgets, run-of-show documents, and production schedules. \n
- Research and secure venues, vendors, food providers, entertainment, speakers, photographers, rentals, signage, materials, and other event needs. \n
- Coordinate event registration, invitations, guest communication, staffing, volunteers, setup, breakdown, and day-of logistics. \n
- Serve as the central point person for vendors, partners, volunteers, and staff involved in each event. \n
- Develop creative ways to make events memorable, mission-driven, professional, and engaging. \n
- Coordinate fundraising and donor-facing events in partnership with organizational leadership and the development team. \n
- Identify opportunities for Asiyah to participate in or collaborate on external community events. \n
- Track event attendance, expenses, partnerships, engagement, and outcomes. \n
- Conduct post-event evaluations and develop recommendations for future events. \n
- Maintain an annual calendar of events and community initiatives. \n
Community Engagement & Partnerships
\n \nThis role will actively grow Asiyah’s presence and relationships throughout New York City.
\nResponsibilities include:
\n \n- \n
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, businesses, schools, universities, faith-based institutions, professional associations, corporate partners, and other stakeholders. \n
- Identify new organizations and groups that could become long-term partners of Asiyah. \n
- Serve as a primary point of contact for groups seeking to collaborate with, volunteer with, fundraise for, or support Asiyah. \n
- Represent Asiyah at community meetings, conferences, tabling opportunities, networking events, and public programs. \n
- Coordinate community outreach efforts and partnership initiatives. \n
- Develop opportunities for organizations to host fundraisers, donation drives, service days, workshops, or community programs benefiting Asiyah. \n
- Maintain consistent communication and follow-up with existing partners. \n
- Help convert one-time collaborations into sustained organizational relationships. \n
- Identify creative opportunities to expand Asiyah’s visibility and engagement across New York City. \n
Volunteer Engagement & Management
\n \nThe Events & Community Coordinator will oversee Asiyah’s volunteer engagement efforts and build an organized, reliable volunteer network.
\n \nResponsibilities include:
\n \n- \n
- Recruit, onboard, coordinate, and retain individual and group volunteers. \n
- Build a strong volunteer pipeline to support events, shelter needs, donation drives, community programs, administrative projects, and special initiatives. \n
- Respond to volunteer inquiries and guide prospective volunteers through onboarding. \n
- Match volunteers with opportunities based on organizational needs, availability, interests, and skills. \n
- Coordinate volunteer schedules and assignments. \n
- Develop volunteer orientations, guidelines, expectations, and engagement materials. \n
- Organize corporate, university, school, and community group volunteer opportunities. \n
- Create recurring volunteer opportunities that encourage long-term engagement. \n
- Maintain regular communication with volunteers and keep them informed about upcoming opportunities. \n
- Track volunteer participation, hours, skills, and engagement. \n
- Develop strategies to recognize volunteers and strengthen volunteer retention. \n
- Ensure volunteers have organized, meaningful, and well-supported experiences. \n
Donation Drives & Community Campaigns
\n- \n \n
- Coordinate clothing, food, household goods, school supply, holiday, and other community donation drives. \n
- Work with partner organizations to establish clear donation needs, timelines, collection plans, and delivery logistics. \n
- Develop creative campaigns that mobilize community members around Asiyah’s mission. \n
- Coordinate group service projects and seasonal initiatives. \n
- Maintain relationships with organizations interested in providing ongoing in-kind support. \n
- Work with internal staff to ensure donated items reflect actual client and program needs. \n
Communications & Promotion
\n \nIn partnership with Asiyah’s communications and development staff, the coordinator will help ensure events and engagement opportunities are effectively promoted.
\n \nResponsibilities include:
\n- \n \n
- Provide event information, photos, highlights, and updates for social media, newsletters, and organizational communications. \n
- Develop clear event and volunteer descriptions for public promotion. \n
- Help create outreach materials, invitations, registration pages, volunteer communications, and partner toolkits. \n
- Ensure community partners have the materials they need to promote collaborative initiatives. \n
- Capture stories, outcomes, photos, and engagement highlights following events when appropriate. \n
Systems, Tracking & Administration
\n \n- \n
- Maintain organized calendars for events, volunteers, community partnerships, and outreach. \n
- Maintain contact databases and records of community partners and volunteers. \n
- Track partnership outreach and ensure timely follow-up. \n
- Maintain event budgets, invoices, contracts, vendor information, and documentation. \n
- Track volunteer participation, event attendance, community engagement, and other relevant metrics. \n
- Create systems that allow community engagement efforts to grow without losing organization or responsiveness. \n
- Provide regular updates to leadership regarding upcoming events, partnerships, volunteer needs, and community opportunities. \n
Qualifications
\n \nWe are looking for candidates who bring strong execution skills alongside creativity and relationship-building ability.
\n \nPreferred qualifications include:
\n- \n \n
- 2–4+ years of experience in events, community engagement, volunteer management, nonprofit work, hospitality, partnerships, outreach, or a related field. \n
- Demonstrated experience coordinating events or projects with multiple stakeholders and moving parts. \n
- Strong event planning and project management skills. \n
- Creative thinker who enjoys developing new concepts and experiences. \n
- Exceptional organization and attention to detail. \n
- Strong interpersonal skills and confidence building new relationships. \n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. \n
- Strong follow-through and ability to independently move projects forward. \n
- Comfort communicating with volunteers, community organizations, corporate partners, vendors, donors, and senior leadership. \n
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously. \n
- Ability to problem-solve quickly and remain calm during live events. \n
- Familiarity with New York City communities and nonprofit organizations is strongly preferred. \n
- Experience working with diverse communities is strongly preferred. \n
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends when events require it. \n
- A bachelor’s degree is welcomed but equivalent professional and community experience will be strongly considered. \n
Who You Are
\nYou are someone who genuinely enjoys bringing people together.
\n \nYou can walk into an empty venue with an idea and envision what the experience could become—and then build the timeline, partnerships, volunteers, vendors, and systems necessary to make it happen.
\n \nYou are equally comfortable calling a potential community partner, coordinating fifty volunteers, negotiating with a vendor, creating an event timeline, welcoming guests, and troubleshooting something unexpected ten minutes before an event begins.
\n \nYou are creative without being disorganized, outgoing without losing attention to detail, and relationship-oriented while still excelling at execution. Most importantly, you care about building community around a mission and creating opportunities for people to meaningfully participate in Asiyah’s work.
\n \nCompensation
\nSalary: $65,000–$75l000 annually, commensurate with experience.
\nAsiyah Women’s Center offers a mission-driven work environment and the opportunity to play a significant role in expanding the organization's community presence, volunteer network, partnerships, and public events.
