Safety Manager

Job Summary Responsible for implementing, administering and monitoring all IES safety policies, procedures and programs for the locations, departments, and projects within their assigned geographical region and/or assigned client. Ensures compliance with all IES and Site/Customer safety policies and procedures, as well as Federal and State standards. Develops and manages safety/health initiatives aimed at preventing and eliminating occupational incidents, injuries, and illnesses. Performs and instructs in proper techniques to proactively analyze, evaluate, and address workplace hazards and incidents. Job Duties and Responsibilities Fully support all IES and Site/Customer safety policies, procedures, and programs and Federal and State standards. Ensure implementation and compliance with IES safety policies, procedures and programs within the Communications Division and site‐specific policies, procedures and programs. Support and provide guidance for operations in developing action plans for any branch, office or project within their region not meeting safety goals and expectations. Perform safety presentations, develop related training, and schedule and coordinate safety audits and inspections to determine compliance with all IES and Site/Customer safety policies, procedures and programs and federal and state safety standards. Conduct or direct activities aimed at identifying potential hazards and develop safety action plans to correct non‑compliance issues. Work with operations and management for implementation, develop processes and plans to reduce or eliminate hazards and safety incidents, deliver and coordinate safety training for management on accident prevention techniques, and prepare written reports and summaries for concise, meaningful information regarding safety audits, investigations, and issues. Conduct and coordinate root cause investigations on recordable incidents, near misses, and vehicle incidents, and use the findings to help operations identify and implement corrective actions to prevent future reoccurrence. Establish committees and conference calls/video to foster communication within their region. Notify the Director of Safety and DSM of any OSHA inspection within their region and provide guidance to local resources, or attend when physically feasible. Prepare and maintain safety‑related records and reports, including but not limited to OSHA 300 logs and incident data for their region or assigned client. Teach, counsel, and mentor stakeholders to uphold the IES safety culture. Participate in hiring and managing site safety coordinators and managers, review claims as needed, and travel for business needs. Other responsibilities as assigned. Compensation Salary: $115,000 per year. Qualifications Must possess CHST certification; will consider other BCSP certifications and/or CSMC. Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety. OSHA 510/500, OSHA 30, and First Aid CPR certified. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, PowerPoint), strong communication and customer relations skills. Willing to travel within the region and work overtime and weekends if needed. Minimum seven years’ experience in construction safety, preferably in telecommunications or electrical industry. Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, confined space entry standards 1926.1200 Subpart AA, and status as an Authorized OSHA OTI 500 Construction Outreach Trainer. Excellent written and verbal communication, detailed orientation and high-level organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Minimum education: high school diploma or GED equivalency; associate degree or higher preferred. Physical and Mental Requirements Self‑motivated, positive, professional, and able to lead others in project process improvement. Promote company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners. Act as liaison with customers, vendors, contractors, and IES representatives. Demonstrate problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, and the ability to read, write, and give oral presentations. Travel within branch or regional territory as needed. Manual dexterity, flexibility and visual acuity to perform inspection functions requiring walking, climbing, squatting, lifting, bending, twisting, etc. Able to lift 50 lbs. Maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falls. Learn and use company and customer computer systems. Meet company minimum driving standards and respond to safety emergencies with or without advance notice.
