MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR

Grade 18 Location of Position Western Maryland Children’s Center 18420 Roxbury Road Hagerstown, MD 21740 Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this position is to provide professional counseling work at the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor level, providing counseling services as an expert in a specialty area or defined treatment or population area for youth with mental health disorders involved with the Dept. of Juvenile Services. The professional counselor represents the Behavioral Health Unit in DJS facilities and community offices providing behavioral health screening, assessment, supportive counseling and consultation and other supportive services to identified youth. Position Duties Provide individual counseling. Facilitate psychoeducational groups with youth. Complete forensic mental health evaluations. Engage with youth's family members. Provide crisis and on‑call services for behavioral health emergencies both on and off‑site, working in rotation with other licensed clinicians. Act as leader, consultant, and/or member of a multi‑disciplinary healthcare team to assist the team’s understanding of social and emotional factors underlying the juveniles’ involvement with DJS and the implementation of the Behavior Management/Motivation Program. Minimum Qualifications Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). Note: These requirements are established by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Candidates must be licensed as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. Candidates may be required to operate a motor vehicle and must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland.
