Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and two (2) years of full-time administrative experience may be considered. Administrative experience (student experience may be considered). Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace. Customer service experience. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a campus residence setting. Experience with safety and support. Experience responding to crisis and/or early intervention (i.e. on-call for emergency response, conflict mediation, responding to medical or mental health emergencies, fire alarms, etc.). Student leadership experience (i.e. participation in student groups, organizations, a Resident Assistant, etc.). Experience with hiring, training and/or supervising student staff. Experience working with a diverse college population.

Brief Description of Duties

Reporting to the Associate Director, Assistant Director, or designated coordinator within Safety & Support Services, the Safety and Support Services Assistant provides administrative, operational, and supervisory support for Campus Residences programs and services. The position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of assigned functional areas, assisting with the supervision of students, coordinating projects and services, supporting compliance with University policies and procedures, and supporting a safe, secure, and supporting residential environment. The incumbent serves as a live-in professional staff member who maintains a visible campus presence, participates in an live in duty rotation, and assists with emergency response, crisis management, and major university events as needed. This role will have a functional assignment in one of the following areas: health and safety, residential fitness centers, residential community centers, residential warehouse operations, and residential safety and support services operations.

Operations & Program Administration

Assist with the daily operation and administration of assigned Safety & Support Services programs and facilities. Assist with the coordination of projects, services, inspections, assessments, and operational initiatives. Maintain records, reports, inventories, databases, and operational documentation. Monitor compliance with departmental procedures, University policies, and applicable regulations. Collaborate with campus partners to ensure efficient service delivery and operational effectiveness. Assist with budget tracking, purchasing, procurement, and financial reconciliation activities. Assist in analyzing operational data and help prepare reports to support assessment and decision-making.

Student Staff Supervision

Assist supervisory staff to recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student assistants. Assist supervisory staff to delegate responsibilities and monitor performance for student assistants. Utilize scheduling and workforce management systems, including Subitup. Support student development and promote a positive team environment.

Customer Service & Campus Partnerships

Provide high-quality customer service to students, staff, faculty, parents, and campus visitors. Serve as a resource regarding departmental programs, policies, and procedures. Coordinate communication and referrals with campus departments and external partners. Respond to inquiries and resolve operational concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Policy Compliance & Conduct

Assist supervisory staff to interpret, apply, and enforce University and Campus Residences policies. Participates in conducting hearings as assigned. Assist with policy education and compliance initiatives. Support risk management, safety, and operational compliance efforts.

Emergency Response & Duty Responsibilities

Participate in the live-in duty rotation. Respond to emergencies, critical incidents, and facility-related concerns as needed. Assist with continuity of operations and emergency preparedness initiatives. Support campus-wide events, including Opening Week, Homecoming, Admitted Students Day, and other university traditions.

Live-In Expectations

Maintain assigned on-campus residence as primary residence. Maintain a consistent and visible campus presence. Assist during emergencies and critical incidents, including off-hours as needed. Assist with the coordination of extended absences with supervisory staff.

Professional Development and Committee Involvement

Participate in opportunities that promote your learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars). Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside your department/unit (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, programs).

Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Hours outside the typical work schedule may be required at times.

This is a full-time live-on appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Salary : $45,372 + $4,000 Location Pay = $49,372 Total Compensation In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly. Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed.
