Classroom Assistant | Lees Summit, Missouri

Make a meaningful impact in schools supporting students across K-12 age groups, primarily in elementary settings. This contract opportunity offers 35 hours per week assisting as an Instructional Assistant in specialized classrooms, partnering with dedicated educators and providing essential support to students with disabilities.


Key Qualifications & Requirements:

• Prior experience supporting children with disabilities, ideally in a school or similar setting
• Valid Missouri substitute certificate or successful completion of Para Praxis (see accepted credentials below)
• Experience with de-escalation strategies, managing behavioral or aggressive episodes, and implementing social/emotional learning supports
• Physical ability to stay mobile in the classroom, assist with physical management, or respond to student elopement as needed
• Bonus if you have an RBT certification or relevant medical background
• Reliable with personal care support such as feeding, toileting, lifting, and facilitating mobility
• Comfortable in 1:1 and very small group instruction

• Provide instructional and behavioral support within special education classrooms (K-5 in social/emotional programs, K-8 in all-special ed settings, and 9-12 in functional/life skills)
• Collaborate with teachers on academic, social, and work-skills activities (e.g., task boxes, basic cooking, in-class support)
• Foster a positive, safe environment for students to thrive and meet individualized learning or behavioral goals
• Assist students throughout the school building and in general education classes as assigned

• 60+ college credit hours, or
• Passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (various acceptable timelines), or
• Completion of the 20HR Missouri Substitute Certificate Course
