DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Determine quantities and variety of food to be prepared. Prepare food items according to standard menus, recipes, and verbal instruction. Assemble salads, sandwiches, desserts, and prepare hot lunches. Participate in the cleaning of the kitchen, cafeteria, and equipment; ensure standards of sanitation and safety are met. Maintain necessary supplies and goods for assigned meals. Operate standard cooking equipment. May plan meals, assist in budget development plans, keep records, make reports, and control inventory. May assist in serving. Lead work of students and part‑time help. Order produce, milk, food, and paper products. Perform other related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to and is directly supervised by the Nutrition Services Manager or designee. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require) Required: High school graduation or GED equivalent; one year experience in quantity food preparation. Possess or be eligible for the State of Washington Department of Health Food and Beverage Handlers Permit. LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require) None KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry) Fundamentals of cooking. Methods and practices of ordering. Producing and serving of food in large quantities. SKILLS (position requirements at entry) Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to understand and carry out written instructions. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relations with staff, students, and public. Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations. Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements. Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. May work outdoors in inclement weather. May require physical mobility to move through a school campus, including up and down stairs and inside and outside.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Nutrition Services salary classification C ($26.59 to $29.54 per hour), M,T, TH,F 8:00am-2:15pm and W 7:00am-1:15pm 31.25 hours per week, for a 193‑day annual assignment. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Medical, dental, vision, long‑term disability, and life‑insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. Verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States must be completed. The District does not currently provide visa sponsorship.
