Job Title: Communications Technician I Job Summary The Communications Technician I must perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Fiber Network Technician will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload including adherence to Company safety and quality standards. Job Duties and Responsibilities Install a work area outlet for floor or wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly, adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards). Build closets (mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels). Perform testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable, use volt‑ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable, use tone set. Identify active voice or data circuits. Assume responsibility for the effective performance of the crew, provide necessary training, and coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project. Fully complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required). Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations. Complete other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Self‑motivated, positive approach, professional, able to create, develop and implement project process improvements. Promotes the company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners. Acts as the company liaison for interface with customer representatives. Possesses proven problem‑solving, critical thinking, reading, writing, and oral presentation skills. Can work at heights, off ladders and in confined spaces; can lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds. Can see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones. Can travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed. Regular attendance is mandatory. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field with ability to supervise others. Proficiency with the listed tools. Proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements. Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
