Job Opportunity – Emergency Department Holding RN – North Carolina

Start Date: September 21, 2026

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week. Every other weekend required. Patient ratios: 1:6 for Medical/Surgical/Telemetry patients or 1:4 for Progressive Care Unit level patients. 12-hour orientation provided.

Highlights:

• Emergency Department Holding Support position within the Float Pool, caring for patients awaiting inpatient bed placement
• Contract lengths from 13 weeks up to February 27, 2027 to support the facility through the holiday season
• Mixed acuity environment with adult Medical/Surgical diagnoses, including potential PCU level patients
• Epic charting system with Pyxis medication management and SBAR communication protocols
• Fast-paced, high-acuity environment with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Social Services, and Rapid Response Teams
• Standard medical equipment including cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and telemetry monitoring systems

Requirements:

• Active North Carolina or Compact state RN license
• Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
• Strong competency in MS/Telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, blood product administration, isolation precautions, high flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, ABG interpretation, chest tube management, PICC line management, heparin and insulin protocols, and rapid response team utilization
• Experience with colostomy care, feeding tube management, renal failure patients, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and tracheostomy management
• Willingness to float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas as needed
• Ability to complete 8-10 hours of pre-start modules online using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Preferred Qualifications:

• NIHSS certification
• Experience with IV access and port management, central line blood draws, CVA patients, pre/post neurosurgery care, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac management
• Epic charting system experience

Additional Information:

Contract staff will be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty situations, or disasters. Time off requests are limited to 7 days maximum and must be pre-approved; no time off allowed during the first week or major holidays. Candidates must work 2 of 3 major holidays. All candidates will participate in an interview process prior to placement.
