Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience preferred License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Must-Have: High acuity progressive care unit patient experience Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls Description: This role is within a medical oncology progressive care unit. The unit cares for adult patients with solid tumors as well as orthopedic and thoracic oncology cases. The unit consists of 36 beds, with more than 24 dedicated to progressive care level of care. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4-5 for medical surgical telemetry and 1:3 for progressive care unit. Pediatric patients are rarely cared for in this unit, and previous pediatric experience is not required. There will be a heavy emphasis on managing high acuity patients. Skills required include interpretation of dysrhythmias, administration of blood products, and management of central and peripheral lines. The nurse will also be responsible for PCA management, administration of cardiac drips, and care for chest tubes. Experience in chemotherapy administration is preferred but not required. The schedule will be self-scheduled, and weekend shifts may vary based on unit needs. The ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
