The Circle of Parents Coordinator reports directly to the Staff and Family Development Supervisor. This position is responsible for coordinating AFN's Circle of Parents Support Groups and supporting family leadership development through the Parent Advisory Board and other family engagement opportunities.

Allegheny Family Network (AFN) partners with families raising children with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges to improve the quality of life for children and families throughout Allegheny County.

The Circle of Parents Coordinator will facilitate family support initiatives, strengthen parent leadership opportunities, connect families to resources, and ensure meaningful family participation in agency and system-level activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Circle of Parents & Family Engagement

• Coordinate and facilitate Circle of Parents Support Groups and related family support activities.
• Recruit, engage, and support parents and caregivers participating in AFN programs.
• Connect families with community resources, support, services, and educational opportunities.
• Encourage peer-to-peer support by connecting families with shared experiences.
• Provide emotional support and encouragement to families navigating child-serving systems.
• Assist families in identifying strengths, goals, and areas where support may be needed.
• Promote family participation in workshops, trainings, conferences, and community events.

Parent Leadership & Advisory Board Support

• Coordinate the Parent Advisory Board and support parent leadership initiatives.
• Recruit and prepare families for participation on advisory boards, committees, and system-level advocacy opportunities.
• Facilitate Parent Advisory Board meetings and maintain meeting records.
• Collaborate with agency leadership to ensure family voices are incorporated into program development and strategic planning.
• Support parent leaders in developing advocacy, communication, and leadership skills.
• Represent and promote the family perspective in meetings and community partnerships.

Family Support Services

• Meet with families in homes, community settings, or virtually, as appropriate.
• Assist families in identifying and obtaining appropriate services and supports.
• Support families in understanding mental health, educational, juvenile justice, and child-serving systems.
• Help families prepare for meetings, hearings, and other advocacy-related activities.
• Collaborate with providers and community partners to ensure positive outcomes for children and families.
• Assist families in developing self-advocacy skills and confidence.

Training & Community Outreach

• Organize educational workshops, training, and family engagement events.
• Conduct presentations regarding AFN services and family support programs.
• Represent AFN at community meetings, conferences, and outreach events.
• Maintain relationships with community partners and service providers.
• Hold at least two educational or family leadership events annually.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate documentation of services provided in accordance with agency policies.
• Collect and record information regarding family needs, strengths, and outcomes.
• Prepare reports and maintain records associated with support groups and advisory board activities.
• Submit required documentation, schedules, and time sheets on a timely basis.
• Attend supervision, staff meetings, and agency training as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO or Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Lived experience as a parent, caregiver, or family member supporting a child with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges preferred.
• Experience facilitating groups, training, or community engagement activities preferred.
• Knowledge of child-serving systems, including mental health, education, child welfare, juvenile justice, and community-based services.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to engage individuals from diverse backgrounds in a culturally responsive manner.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams).
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout Allegheny County as needed.

Job Details:

• $51,000.00 Annual Salary, medical, dental, vision, generous paid time off, and ongoing training. 
• Monday – Friday 7.5 hours per day. Flexible hours based on clients' needs. 
• Family Support Partners will spend their days meeting with clients throughout Allegheny County. When Partners are not with families, Partners will report to our office on the North Shore of Pittsburgh.
