About This Opportunity Reporting to Maintenance Supervisor 2, the Painter is responsible for performing journey-level duties in skilled painting work. Key Responsibilities Surface Preparation, Painting & Finishing (60%) Prepare surfaces for painting and finishing by scraping, sanding, washing, and removing old finishes, rust, dirt, and grease. Apply primers, sealers, stains, undercoats, textures, and finish coatings. Paint walls, ceilings, trim, and other surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment. Tape and finish drywall joints. Prepare, finish, and refinish woodwork, cabinetry, and floors. Perform all work using approved safety practices and required PPE. Surface Repair & Restoration (25%) Perform minor repairs to drywall, plaster, wood, metal, masonry, and related surfaces. Patch, fill, caulk, and restore surfaces to ensure a quality finished appearance. Identify and address surface deficiencies prior to painting or refinishing. Equipment, Materials & Operational Support (15%) Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, spray equipment, power washers, ladders, scaffolding, and other work platforms. Clean, maintain, and store tools and equipment. Load, unload, transport, and manage shop materials and supplies. Drive vehicles as required. Maintain work logs, records, and related documentation. Provide guidance, instruction, and training to helpers, students, and other painters as assigned. Support efficient project completion through communication, teamwork, and customer service. Perform related duties as required. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration. Minimum Qualifications Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Department. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a painter; OR full journey status as a painter in a union; OR four years of applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis. May require valid State of Washington driver’s license. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration. Preferred Qualifications Experience working directly with customers or clients Experience working in a multi-tenant residential or university environment Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel Experience and references that demonstrate: Ability to read, write and communicate verbal instructions in English Ability to work with a diverse workgroup Ability to coordinate work with other trades Ability to work under general supervision where work is carried out independently and evaluated on results achieved.
