Position Summary

The Pool Bartender is responsible for delivering an elevated beverage experience at the Terrace Café, serving guests and members in a refined al fresco setting. This role combines strong technical bartending skills with warm, professional service crafting seasonal cocktails, serving wines, and supporting a seamless poolside experience during high-volume daytime operations.

The Pool Bartender also serves as a cashier and is responsible for accurate financial handling, shift reporting, and maintaining bar standards throughout service.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience & Service

• Provide polished, attentive, and engaging service in a poolside environment
• Anticipate guest needs and respond with professionalism and efficiency
• Confidently guide guests through beverage selections, with a focus on California wines and seasonal offerings
• Maintain a calm, composed presence during high-volume service

Beverage Execution

• Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to Meadowood standards
• Craft cocktails using fresh, seasonal ingredients aligned with Terrace Café offerings
• Serve wine and beer with proper technique and presentation
• Maintain strong knowledge of beverage menus and ingredients

Financial & Operational Responsibilities

• Accurately process all transactions using POS systems
• Serve as cashier for the outlet during assigned shifts
• Complete end-of-shift financial reporting and cash reconciliation
• Maintain accountability for cash handling and bar transactions

Bar Setup & Maintenance

• Complete opening and closing side work, including stocking and preparation of garnishes
• Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing bar environment
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with requisitions as needed
• Uphold all sanitation, safety, and cleanliness standards

Team Collaboration

• Communicate effectively with service team and leadership to ensure smooth operations
• Support poolside and Terrace Café service as needed based on business levels
• Share guest feedback or service opportunities with management

Schedule & Work Environment

• Seasonal position aligned with Terrace Café operations
• Primarily weekend-focused schedule
• Outdoor, al fresco work environment requiring comfort in Napa Valley summer conditions

Compensation

• Base pay $17.50 - 18.50 pr/hr. + Tips + Service Charge.
• This is the rate Meadowood Napa Valley reasonably expects to pay. Final compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education, and other job-related qualifications.

Qualifications

Experience

• Minimum 1-2 years of bartending experience preferred
• Experience in a restaurant, resort, or hospitality setting required
• Prior experience in high-volume or outdoor service environments a plus

Education & Certifications (California Requirements)

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Responsible Beverage Service (RBS)
• Certification (California ABC compliant)
• California Food Handler Card
• Must be at least 21 years of age

Skills & Abilities

• Strong knowledge of cocktails, wine, and beverage service
• Ability to engage guests with confidence, professionalism, and warmth
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members across departments
• Sound judgment in alcohol service, including refusal of service when appropriate

Communication Skills

• Clear and professional verbal communication skills
• Ability to interact effectively with guests, members, and team members
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus

Computer & Technical Skills

• Working knowledge of POS systems
• Ability to process transactions accurately and efficiently

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
• Ability to work in a physically active, outdoor environment

Working Conditions

• Outdoor pool and Terrace Café setting
• Exposure to heat, sun, and varying weather conditions
• Fast-paced, guest-facing environment
