MIG Fabrication Welder — Production Metals

Location: Kansas City, KS

Picture your week: four focused 10-hour days on the line, then three days to recharge. You’ll step onto a clean, organized production floor at a long-standing metal manufacturer known for stamping, fabrication, value-added assembly, tooling, and machining. From the first arc you strike to the final inspection, your craft shapes parts that meet exacting specs.

A Day in the Life

You’ll set up and run welding equipment to join and fabricate metal components to blueprint standards. Precision matters—from fit-up to final bead appearance.

• Perform GMAW/MIG on carbon steel, stainless, and aluminum; support robotic and spot welding as needed.
• Tack and weld assemblies using electric, gas, or arc processes.
• Heat, form, and dress parts with hand tools, torches, or arc equipment to achieve clean finishes.
• Dial in amperage, voltage, and wire feed for a stable arc and consistent penetration.
• Guide the gun along the joint, evaluating bead by color, sound, and puddle behavior.
• Position, clamp, and fixture workpieces for accurate fit-up.
• Verify dimensions of finished parts with measuring tools.
• Read and interpret prints, weld symbols, and specs to plan layout and weld sequence.
• Operate supplementary machine shop equipment to prep components.
• Follow all safety rules and PPE requirements at all times.

What You’ll Bring

• High school diploma or GED.
• 6–12 months of welding experience, vocational training, or metal fabrication shop experience.
• Hands-on MIG proficiency across carbon steel, stainless, and aluminum (automated/robotic welding is a plus).
• Ability to read weld symbols and blueprints; speak and read English.
• Personal hand tools.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for 10–12-hour shifts.
