Security Monitor

Middle School Security MonitorGlenview Middle School is seeking applicants for a Security Monitor. Qualification requirements include the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with district staff and students, the ability to enforce school rules in a firm, consistent, and cordial manner, and certification of good health signed by a licensed physician. Work year - all student attendance days during the school year. Work day - 7 hour work day. Holidays and paid time off - sick, personal, and holiday pay in accordance with Board Policy 5:330 - Educational Support Personnel. Employee benefits in accordance with District policy for full-time staff. Starting wage: $17.36/hour. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly.To assist building administration in providing a safe, orderly school environment. Essential duties and responsibilities include supervising the arrival and departure of students, supervising outside areas, escorting special students as needed, removing non-students from the building, de-escalating potential students who are in danger of hurting themselves or others, attending all professional development offerings pertaining to the position and reporting pertinent information to staff, serving as a member of the school security team, monitoring and operating the school's security equipment, assisting with updating the building crisis manual on an annual basis, maintaining a positive working relationship with the staff to insure a safe school environment, being prompt to work and having excellent attendance, communicating with law enforcement, parents and staff on security issues, staying current on local gang issues, overseeing any crisis situation with the building administrators and taking appropriate action in the administrator's absence, providing written reports on school incidents, students' behavior matters and safety/security issues, completing security assessments for the building, understanding and practicing confidentiality with regard to school/student related issues, supervising students in halls before and after school, encouraging students to get to class on time, discouraging loitering in the building after school, pointing out matters of safety and security to the Administration and Board of Education, systematically checking restrooms and halls to discourage students from smoking on school grounds, submitting referrals to the appropriate office when students violate school rules, discouraging students from consuming food anywhere other than the cafeteria, cordially assisting visitors in locating the office, instructing students wishing to visit Glenview where to obtain a guest pass/badge, reporting problems encountered daily to the Associate/Assistant Principal, performing such other duties as may be assigned by supervisors, overseeing and monitoring student behavior by walking hallways, campus grounds, locker rooms, and cafeteria to ensure students are proceeding to their classes in an orderly manner, helping maintain order in classrooms, library, gymnasiums, and on school grounds by removing students in the event of unruly behavior, searching for students who are not in their assigned class, assisting with supervision during and lunch periods, may function as a "guide" for members of the community who wish to tour Glenview campus and/or classrooms, providing crisis prevention and intervention where appropriate, assisting staff in crisis prevention, maintaining a controlled environment for students and staff in the school buildings and campus, and may participate in escorting or transporting assigned students between classes, within the school, on the grounds or to other areas.Terms of employment: The work year shall consist of all student attendance days. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.FLSA Status: Non-exempt. Physical demands include walking, standing, talking, and listening the majority of the work shift, but may occasionally need to crouch or kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read hand-written or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing ability to monitor activity and presence of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required. Must be able to go up and down stairs on a regular basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 35 pounds. When trained to do so, the employee must be physically able to appropriate techniques for the safe physical management of children who are harming themselves or others. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Work environment: This work is performed in all areas of the school building, primarily in hallways, restroom areas as appropriate, cafeterias, etc. The noise level in the work environment is normally low to moderate, but may become loud when large groups are together.
