Position Summary The Work Comp Specialist works with patients, clinical teams, work comp companies, and the call center to coordinate care at OrthoNebraska. They act as the main liaison between patients and OrthoNebraska. Position Details Status: Full-Time Shift: Days FTE / Hours: 1.0 / 40 Schedule: Mon - Fri: 8:00am - 5:00pm Position Requirements Education: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required. Licensure: N/A Certification: N/A Experience: 1+ year of Worker's compensation experience preferred. Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Operating knowledge of/and experience with computers, copiers, fax machines, and E‑mail. Great time‑management skills. Calm and rational thinking with clear, concise communication among the Workers' Compensation team, clinical staff, and managers. Ability to multi‑task with interruptions in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrate customer service excellence and professionalism. Knowledge of workers compensation. Essential Job Functions Obtain referral or authorization for treatment of Workers' Compensation patients. Gather correct workers compensation company, claim number, billing address, and adjuster/nurse case manager contact information. Obtain all prior records and X‑ray discs of patients before first appointment when applicable. Obtain proper information and records for MVA or Third‑Party liabilities. Coordinate with clinical staff. Ensure interpretive services are set up for patients when needed. Assist adjusters, case managers, and employers with timely requests for information. Maintain patient confidentiality by understanding HIPAA regulations. Complete items identified in work queues in a timely manner. Participate in performance improvement activities. Attend and participate in department meetings. Follow established guidelines as stated in policies and procedures of Patient Financial Services at OrthoNebraska. Inform Assistant Manager/Manager of patient complaints or issues promptly. Demonstrate "Always TRUE" and the OrthoNebraska Way. Other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements This position is classified as Sedentary Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (33%–66% of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
