Senior Property Accountant

Hybrid-2 days in the office in beautiful Greenville, DE Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Property Accountant to join our growing team. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of affordable housing properties. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and able to manage multiple deadlines while working collaboratively with internal departments, auditors, lenders, and investors. Monitor and verify agency direct deposits for all assigned properties. Perform monthly bank reconciliations for multiple property and corporate accounts. Complete monthly accounting close, including rolling forward Accounts Payable and General Ledger periods. Prepare and post recurring journal entries, allocations, management fees, vacancy loss, and other monthly adjusting entries. Reconcile all general ledger accounts, including prepaid expenses, accruals, escrows, reserves, and other balance sheet accounts. Review monthly financial statements and prepare necessary correcting entries. Process bank transfers and approve ACH and wire transactions. Fund required escrow accounts in accordance with established deadlines. Prepare quarterly Reserve for Replacement reimbursement requests by compiling invoices, canceled checks, and supporting documentation. Obtain and submit property insurance and real estate tax invoices to escrow holders for reimbursement. Prepare annual 1099 reports and coordinate with external accountants. Coordinate year-end closing activities, including journal entries, write-offs, and audit preparation. Respond to auditor requests, prepare PBC (Prepared by Client) schedules, and post audit adjustments upon completion. Upload audited financial information to agency reporting portals. Reconcile intercompany due-to/due-from accounts and research discrepancies. Enter annual property budgets into Yardi Voyager. Partner with Asset Management to prepare reserve funding requests and financial analyses. Collaborate with Accounts Payable to research invoices, outstanding checks, and account discrepancies. Work with executive leadership on complex accounting issues and general ledger reporting. Prepare quarterly financial reports for investors. Respond to financial inquiries from lenders, investors, auditors, and regulatory agencies. Research and resolve incorrect property deposits with site and regional management teams. Coordinate with Information Technology to process accounting system adjustments as needed. Reconcile specialized property receipts and coordinate fund transfers with internal accounting staff. Process reserve disbursement requests and obtain required approvals. Assist with special projects and perform other accounting duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 5 years of property accounting experience , preferably in affordable housing or multifamily real estate. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close. Experience working with audits, escrow accounts, reserve funding, and investor or lender reporting. Knowledge of affordable housing programs (LIHTC, HUD, USDA Rural Development, state housing finance agencies, etc.) is highly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
