We are seeking a hard-working, innovative, detail-oriented, and creative team player to join our Aptive team! This is a full-time Senior Safety Manager position located in Provo, Utah, or remotely. The individual we are looking for is someone who enjoys working in a team environment and excels at working at an individual level. This position will focus on reducing auto incidents and workers’ compensation injuries within a route-based service environment. This role designs and implements integrated safety programs that leverage data, influence field behavior, and embed safety into daily operations to ensure employees operate safely and consistently.
What we offer:
$125k+ Base Salary
Annual Merit bonus potential of up to 15%
Group Health, Dental, and Vision plans
Pet insurance, Life insurance, and EAP benefits
401K with employer match up to 4%
Paid holidays and paid time off
Opportunity for advancement
Upbeat and exciting company culture and much more!
Responsibilities include:
Manage the enterprise-wide telematics program to monitor high-risk behaviors such as speeding, harsh braking, and distracted driving
Leverage real-time data to drive field performance, overseeing targeted coaching and process discipline for technicians to prevent common rear-end collisions and other unsafe driving behaviors
Utilize GPS tracking to optimize right-hand routing, reducing failure to yield incidents
Enhance and modernize the Defensive Driver Safety Program, moving beyond basic training to incorporate advanced techniques tailored for service van and truck maneuvers in residential and high-traffic areas
Implement "behind-the-wheel" evaluations and simulation-based training to sharpen technicians' reflexes and hazard recognition
Design and deploy a proprietary safety model that embeds safety protocols directly into the technician’s end-to-end service workflow (from en route to arrival and inspection to treatment and departure)
Partner with Operations and IT to integrate safety "hard stops" and digital checklists, including identifying route hazards, into the mobile service application, ensuring safety isn't an afterthought but a core part of the service delivery
Host post-incident calls, facilitating discussion to determine the root cause and preventative measures
Develop proactive programs relative to hazard identification/assessments to combat the industry's most frequent claims: slips, trips, and falls, often caused by uneven ground or backpack sprayers affecting balance
Design safety protocols for high-severity risks, using ergonomics to reduce strain and sprain risks
Oversee Workers' Compensation case management, focusing on early intervention to reduce repetitive strain injuries
Develop a comprehensive field observation program that goes beyond basic compliance to identify "near-misses" in ever-changing environments
Establish a culture of safety where technicians are empowered to pause work if they encounter unsafe conditions like unstable structures or aggressive animals
Collaborate with operations managers to ensure the effective use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and strict adherence to chemical labels and SDS instructions
Analyze safety KPIs to identify "signal assessments" in injury trends, specifically looking for correlations between schedule pressure and incident rates
Prepare executive-level dashboards that visualize the ROI of safety initiatives in terms of reduced insurance premiums and improved operational efficiency
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Fleet Safety Director (CFSD) preferred
Requirements:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in safety management, preferably within a route-based or field service industry
Experience using Learning & Development principles
Deep expertise in safety management within route-based or field service environments, including defensive driving programs and fleet risk mitigation strategies
Strong systems-thinking capability with the ability to design and integrate safety programs into operational workflows and service delivery models
Proficiency in telematics platforms, data analysis, and the ability to translate safety data into actionable insights and measurable performance improvements
Ability to influence behavior and drive cultural change through collaboration, communication, and alignment with operational leadership
Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to address safety risks, balance operational demands, and continuously evolve programs to maintain engagement and effectiveness
To ensure optimal employee performance in a remote/hybrid work environment, remote/hybrid employees are expected to maintain the following work environment:
A quiet and distraction-free working space
Stable internet connection with consistent download speeds of 20 Mbps and upload speeds of 5 Mbps
Jitter below 20 milliseconds
Dedicate full attention to job duties during working hours
