Pay Grade: 804 Duty Days: 244 Salary Range: $40,992 - $49,386 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Purpose Installs, repairs, or replaces all commercial kitchen appliances throughout the District, such as ice machines, refrigerators, freezers, and washing machines; responsible for commercial kitchen appliances in throughout Child Nutrition Services (CNS) including campus kitchens. Essential Job Functions Child Nutrition Services – Installation, Maintenance & Repair Services and repairs walk-in and reach-in freezers, refrigerators, ice machines, and other refrigeration equipment. Replaces compressors, condensers, evaporators, fan motors, and other electrical components typically found in commercial kitchen equipment. Installs, repairs, and replaces dish machines, ovens, steam tables, warming cabinets, and garbage disposals; as well as heating elements, light bulbs, door handles, hinges, water solenoid valves, and any components. Assists in the installation of convection and steamer ovens; replaces elements and electrical components in boiler section and steam chamber. Replaces boiler when necessary. Repairs and replaces steam jacketed kettles and washing machines (including pumps, timers, belts, tubs, and transmissions). Locates and stops gas leaks; replaces burners and pilot assemblies. Safety Maintains inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures that equipment is in safe operating condition. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor Personal Work Relationships All Fort Worth ISD employees must maintain a commitment to the District’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of best practices, standard methods, materials, and tools used in the repair of commercial kitchen appliances, equipment, and tools. Knowledge of applicable electrical codes. Skill in estimating and calculating amount of materials needed, and tracking inventory. Ability to read and interpret work orders, service manuals, wiring diagram schematics, and other written material relating to installation and repairs. Ability to write and prepare work descriptions, notes, instructions, and basic reports. Ability to find and correct defects in electrical commercial kitchen appliances; ability to read electrical wiring diagrams to repair or maintain appliances. Ability to use software to for basic computing and communicating. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals such as hand-held devices; small hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments; dollies and hand trucks; light truck or van. Posture: Frequent standing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, high degree of physical dexterity and ability to perform work requiring considerable standing and bending; frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving. Lifting: Daily heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over). Exerting: Occasional heavy pushing/pulling and exerting to move over 100 pounds of distributed weight, often with hand trucks and/or the assistance of other employees. Environment: Works outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; works around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly works irregular hours; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours on short notice; occasional unscheduled overtime to protect District property due to power outage, equipment malfunction, or as needed. Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions. Special Requirements: Responds to emergency work requests; works overtime as required. Minimum Required Qualifications Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency. Certification/License: Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required; Insurable by the District's insurance carrier required; EPA Certified Service Technician preferred. Experience: 2-5 years’ related experience repairing/replacing/installing commercial kitchen appliances (HVAC Refrigeration is considered an appliance). Insurability Requirements For All Drivers Must be at least 21 years old. NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion. Driving and accident record: Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record Check Type 3A-Certified list of all crashes and violations NO more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including: moving traffic violations (including no more than 1 preventable accident); failure to provide proof of valid driver’s license or proof of insurance; equipment violations. NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol. NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage). NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide. NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver’s license. NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing. NO use of a vehicle in commission of a felony. NO operating a vehicle without owner’s permission (unauthorized use or grand theft). NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive. NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit. NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle. Additional restrictions may apply if directed by FWISD’s Fleet Insurance Carrier.
