Training Specialist

Job Summary The primary focus of this position will be to instruct electrical journeymen, and apprentices in the proper theory, installation, troubleshooting, and safety techniques needed to perform the duties as a journey-level electrician. The Instructor will also train mechanics, machinist, and other trades as necessary in Hazardous Energy Control Program (HECP) procedures as well as NFPA-70E Electrical Safe Work Practices. The instructor will work one on one teaching the required hands on skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the required tasks of the electrical trade with apprentices to ensure consistent instruction and evaluation of OJL activities while apprentices are on assignment in the field. Key Responsibilities Primary Job Duty Instruct all mandatory curriculum for apprentice electricians as defined in the CAP Apprenticeship Standards. Instruct all journeymen and apprentices in the NFPA-70E Electrical Safe Practices curriculum as well as the CAP Hazardous Energy Control Program in cooperation with the CAP Administrator Electrical Safety Program. Travels the CAP system and works one on one performing hands on tasks of the electrical trade with apprentices to ensure that all On the Job Learning (OJL) work processes are being instructed and evaluated consistently. Maintains, tests, repairs and troubleshoots complex electrical and electronic systems. Performs switching of high voltage equipment (certified switchman) under safe clearance procedures. Checks, revises and updates electrical schematics, drawing and diagrams as required. Maintains continuing records of all calibration tests on equipment along with files of preventive maintenance records. Secondary Job Duty Completes weekly expense and mileage reports and submits them in an accurate and timely manner. Completes weekly activity reports and submits them in an accurate and timely manner. Plans work week schedule by contacting customers via telephone and/or e-mail to assure effective and time efficient interaction with customers. Records customer information into CRM database in an accurate and timely manner. Participates in weekly huddles with directors and corporate training department. Housekeeping and Other Duties Cleans, organizes and maintains work area. Requests and/or orders supplies as needed in accordance with Company procedures. Cleans, organizes and prepares staging areas for setting up new calibration assignments/jobs. Transports supplies and equipment as needed to designated locations in a timely and safe manner and in accordance with Company processes. Performs other duties as requested or assigned. Job Relationships Immediate Supervisors: Business Operations Director Workers Supervised: None Interrelationships: In addition to working with customers, potential customers and others outside of JM Test Systems, the Sales/ Service Representative will work directly with the Sales Manager and other JMTest Employees (for example: marketing, sales management, inside sales, accounting, logistics, Accounts Receivable (A/R) and Metrology Engineering groups) in promoting sales and service and in providing exceptional customer service whether out in the field or working from an in-house site. Work Environment Works in multiple settings both indoors and outdoors (laboratory, manufacturing, plant-type settings, etc.) within JM’s locations and at Customer Sites, thus being exposed to varying temperatures and conditions. Ability to drive and ride in a vehicle for long periods of time while traveling to/from a customer’s location as needed or required. Ability to communicate easily and effectively, including speaking and writing clearly. Ability to hear normal conversation and faint sounds, see near and far objects, perceive depth and color accurately. Ability to perform lifting of test equipment unassisted (up to 50 lbs.). Ability to perform housekeeping, maintenance, and organization of work site and/or vehicle. Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk and climb stairs. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Skills and Qualifications Must have a High School diploma or GED. Associates degree, technical trade school or ion preferred. Certification from an accredited craft instructor training program is preferred. Must have a minimum of five years’ experience as an electrical apprenticeship instructor. Certifications or Licenses: Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI) Level II Instrumentation Technician preferred. Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI) Level II Test Administrator preferred. Experience: Ten (10) years experience as a Journey level Electrician, or completion of a State/Federally registered apprenticeship program and seven years of journey level electrician experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
