Junior Specialist – Department of Surgery, Division of Transplant Surgery, University of California, San Francisco The Division of Transplant Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a Junior Specialist. The role requires a strong interest in synthesizing, analyzing, presenting, and publishing study findings. The position reports to the Clinical Research Supervisor and works under the supervision of Principal Investigator Dr. John Roberts. Responsibilities Collect data from operative notes and create visualizations of UNOS, OPTN, and internal databases. Participate in the review and drafting of protocols to ensure institutional review board approval within university compliance. Support the management and coordination of multiple liver transplant research studies. Act as an intermediary between the research team, physicians, and collaborators while overseeing data collection and management. Interact with Spanish‑speaking patients (Spanish fluency preferred). Create, clean, update, and manage databases and comprehensive datasets and reports. Utilize Excel, Python, or other data visualization software to draw conclusions from external databases and internal study results. Qualifications Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Box, and Windows. Strong oral and written communication skills, good organizational and interpersonal skills, and excellent analytical thinking. Ability to multitask in a deadline‑oriented environment. Preference for candidates with an interest in surgery, especially abdominal transplant. Minimum of a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field, or at least 4 years of laboratory experience, at the time of hire.
